If you’re ever walking the vineyards chez D’yquem – take a quick look across and up the hill – there you’ll find another ‘first growth’ premiere cru that has largely flown under the radar – which is a very good thing for us.
Listed in the original 1855 classification of Sauternes and Barsac directly behind Yquem and La Tour Blanche, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey drastically over delivers, consistently hitting way above its weight class. Despite souring scores and rave critical reviews – year in and year out – the wines are still incredibly affordable.
The 2005 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey features abundant tension between the slight tinge of sweetness and its bracing acidity. In the glass, it continues to unfold throughout the evening – sometimes featuring coastal fruits – pineapple, mango and citrus and sometimes leaning towards almond, praline, and lemon curd. You can just sit and sip all night.

95 Points, James Suckling
This is powerful and racy with lots of class. Full body, very sweet with lots of spicy botrytis character. Intense. Drink or hold.

92 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a huge favorite of folks in the Red Bank area. It’s a bold, unapologetic Chardonnay with juicy notes of peach, lemon sorbet, baking spice and vanilla with a rich, creamy middle and plenty of natural acidity to balance it out. The lemon vanilla finish is perhaps the wine’s calling card or the sheer drinkability of it all. Either way, it’s a Chard that people adore. It’s no wonder Wine Enthusiast called this, “a big win for fans of this bold style”.
The Zenato family has built up quite the reputation for delivering exceptional value with their red and whites in Veneto. Their Pinot Grigio is a particularly great value, punching way above its weight class. Delicately scented and soft on the palate, it offers classic citrus and floral notes in a balanced elegant style. It’s smooth and refreshing with a long, pleasant finish. Great with food.
This one is so fruit friendly and inviting and also the perfect treat for some Italian food or fresh fish. It leads with beautiful notes of stone fruit, lemon, lime, and some acacia flowers. It’s delicate, but still full on the mouth, with good structure, freshness, and intensity.
The 2016 vintage in Napa was nearly perfect for winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val). With ideal weather all throughout harvest, he crafted the Faustini Money Road Chardonnay off the famous vineyard located in the coveted Oakville AVA. The picturesque vineyard off Oakville Crossroad is platinum rated, known for its ideal combination of soil & climate and the big A list names that routinely source fruit. Kian’s Money Road Chard is still youthful despite having a few years of age, probably as a result of its 18 months of slumber in 1/4 new Oak.
