Today’s wine is something truly special. I did my own digging and managed to dig up my own NDA-worthy Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet.
While trying to branch out and find the next great thing in the region, I stumbled upon a single barrel of some of the most lush Cabernet I’ve tasted in ages. The only hitch is I could have it, but it had to be labeled to protect the winery from which it came.
So you won’t find any information on this wine anywhere. It’s exclusive to us and only a single barrel was made – 24 cases. (If you know how barrel math goes – you’ll notice there’s one missing!)
The 2020 Capablanca Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet is a deep dark purple and features a surprisingly vibrant nose of fresh blackberry, violets, and creme de cassis. The mouth is full-bodied and plush, round and juicy with a core of black currant and a kiss of oak.

#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator
92 Points, Wine Spectator – 91 Points, James Suckling
“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.
Winemaker Pascal Sirat consistently puts out some of the best value Bordeaux in the region but he may have outdone himself in what was a stellar 2019 vintage throughout the region. Just south of Pomerol, the vines at Panchille borrow deep in the soil. The resulting wines are ripe but fresh, with an aromatic complexity and stony finish usually reserved for wine twice the price. Daniel Boulud tells me it’s been the hottest bottle of wine at Bar Boulud for over a month, so I figured I’d better hurry up and secure my allocation! Don’t miss it.
