The story of Anakota begins deep in the heart of Knights Valley in rural Sonoma County. Located in an ancient volcanic zone, this relatively untouched and unknown place offers incredibly unique and diverse soils with a climate perfectly suited to Bordeaux varietals. Superstar winemaker Pierre Seillan from Verité fame sources from two estate-owned vineyards in the heart of a special winegrowing region.
Rising more than 4,000 feet above sea level, Mount St. Helena looks down on our estate-owned vineyards which are quietly situated on the rugged flanks of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. The wines here are some of the best made – which shows by all the big names that this beauty outpointed in the 2019 vintage: BOND, Shafer, Spottswoode, and countless others.
“The two Anakota vineyards sit at the base of Mount St. Helena in Knights Valley, in the northeast of Sonoma, just north of Napa Valley’s Calistoga. While very close to one another, the two sites have different aspects, altitudes and soil profiles, producing markedly different wines.
Generally speaking, Helena Dakota is composed of a red-loam soil, allowing for deeper roots and more vine vigor. Helena Montana is perched at a higher altitude with sandy/gravelly loam soils that force the vines to struggle. The Helena Montana and Helena Dakota vineyards are truly coming into their own now at 20 years old. The winemaker here is Pierre Seillan from Verité, applying the same sensitivity to understanding the land and expressing the individual terroirs.” -Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) was tasted as a finished blend that has come out of barrel in preparation for bottling. It spent 12 months in 100% new French oak and is due to be bottled in April 2021. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose delivers intense black currant cordial, Black Forest cake and blackberry pie notes with suggestions of cardamom, tobacco leaf, pencil lead and iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is pure decadence with layers of black and blue berry preserves intertwined with tightly knit earthy nuances, poised to break through all that fruit. The rich flavors are well-framed by firm, very fine tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with fantastic persistence. What a beauty!”
99 Points, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota Vineyard explodes with violets, aniseed and cast iron, with a deep core of crushed blueberries and black cherries, evolving continually with each approach to the glass. The palate is stunning with its intensity and lift, pure fruits, pixelated tannins and focused acidity that drives the very long finish. Its exceptional balance and super pure flavors, plus that characteristic streak of iron that appears across the Anakota portfolio, really take the 2019 Helena Dakota to the next level.

90-92 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 91 Pts (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 91 Pts, Decanter
The wines get consistent high praise but 2018 is truly something special. 90-92 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. 91 points and an Editor’s Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast. 91 more from Decanter who provides “There is so much to enjoy in the smaller appellations this year. Drinking Window 2022 – 2031” and another 90 point score from James Suckling. This is a home run value – especially for the price.

This is a Nicholas Faithful favorite. Even though it’s technically a non-vintage it was last disgorged in the 2020 vintage. La Cravantine, is a sparkling rosé of 100% Cabernet Franc, bone-dry, super fresh and with bubbles so tiny and fine, it puts most “real” Champagne to shame. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. This wine is incredibly versatile – perfect with just about any fish, fried food, or do like I do and enjoy it on it’s own.
Fresh off a huge feature in The Wall Street Journal in which they were crowned as the top Prosecco Rose in a lineup of 14, I suspect what was once our little secret will explode. James Suckling also finally got around to tasting it and gave it 91 points. I’d rate it even higher. The 2021 Bisol Jeio Brut Prosecco Rosé is remarkable, and simply put, mouth-wateringly delicious. Inviting aromas of flowers and wild strawberries, with a complex mouthfeel that sings with citrus fruits and creaminess from the tiny crisp bubbles.
#3 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2021
96 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 95 Points, Wine Spectator
We are one of the very few folks who have Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. This is definitely not one to miss. The 2016 vintage showcases this prized vineyard in all its glory; notes of wild black fruit, thyme, mint, eucalyptus, and bay are lifted and enjoyed with the polished tannin and mouthwatering freshness of this wine. Regarded as one of the best vintages in the last few decades, the 2016 Martha’s Vineyard has been aged to perfection for immediate enjoyment at release and will continue to reward for the next 20+ years.
