It happens every time without fail. Of all the items we sell, customers always ask to purchase our Nicholas Reserve liquors again. Of course, these liquors are one of a kind and additional bottles – quite literally – will never be available again.
It’s hard to believe what these distilleries let me get away with – tasting through hundreds of barrels and selecting the very best one or two for Nicholas Customers. From humble beginnings with a little distillery in Arkansas and now 40 barrels later we’ve been to Kentucky, Wyoming, Indiana, New York, Mexico & even Ireland.
My standard for selecting these barrels has never changed. They MUST be unique to the market and of course, they MUST taste substantially better (IMO) to a “regular” bottling. We’ve done dinners that have served the Nicholas Barrel next to the regular version and every time the Nicholas Barrel was the hands down winner.
So this time, I’ve held a few bottles back of each of our most popular Reserve Bottlings and put them together into the Ultimate Liquor Cabinet Sampler. It goes without saying that this would make an incredible gift, even if it’s just for yourself.
Here’s the best price we’ve ever offered on these bottles. Salud!
The Ultimate Liquor Cabinet Includes:
(1 bottle) Herradura Nicholas Reserve Double Barrel Tequila (dos)
(1 bottle) Old Forester Nicholas Reserve Bourbon
(1 bottle) Nicholas Barrel Reserve Roca Patron
(1 bottle) Knappogue Castle 12-Year Old Nicholas Reserve Irish Whiskey
(1 bottle) Ragtime Rye Nicholas Reserve

The secret to Philippe’s tightly wound, complex Pinot Noir is a combo of ancient vines, natural farming techniques, and low yields. The wines are built to age, with incredible tension and length. And the secret to me securing his other-wordly 2017 old-vine Gevry-Chambertin can be chalked up to a great relationship and over a decade supporting superior Burgundian winemaking. The wine is scary good. The nose is wild, filled with spiced dark raspberries, red flowers, and baking spices. The palate is elegant and racy, with a dynamic tension that runs right through its minute-long finish. This is a high-toned, wound-up Pinot, that is starting to hit its prime and is really turning out to be a ‘must-have’ for true Burgundy lovers.
True whiskey and Knob Creek enthusiasts are going to go nuts for this one. Knob Creek Rye is as outstanding as it is rare but today we’re lucky enough to bring to you, my own single barrel of it. This is a big gold expression of Rye that holds nothing back. On the nose, there are hints of dill, rye and essence of charred oak. On the palate, you are hit over the head with baking spice, honey and freshly baked bread. The finish is certainly a warm “Kentucky Hug” that goes on forever.
Bulleit isn’t usually one to come out with too many new or limited releases, but the ‘Frontier’ Limited Release bucks that trend. This American Single Malt was made with 100% malted barley, aged in new American spiced oak casks, and bottled at 43% alcohol. It hits with notes of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, candied orange, dried fruits, and maple syrup. She’s a beauty – just wish I had more to sell!

“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
