The Yalumba estate in Australia is easily one of the most iconic wineries in all of Australia, if not the Southern Hemisphere. They’re a family-owned winery that’s been around since the mid 1800s. They’ve long since established themselves as THE major player in a wine region that wouldn’t be ready for the international stage until nearly a century later.
During that time, Yalumba also led the way by embracing natural terroir to craft wines with purpose and unique character. Without that edge, the family would never have grown into the force they are today.
If you’ve never tried any of these wines, I absolutely implore you to do so. They deserve your time and attention, and they deserve to be enjoyed all spring and summer long.
I tasted the Yalumba ‘Y Series’ a few weeks ago and was left stunned. The wine was fantastic – a high-toned beauty with a super fruity and tropical nose that leads to citrus and stone fruit, amazing natural acidity, and even a streak of minerality that dazzles the palate.

Despite being Yalumba’s entry level Viognier, this is one of its most delicious white offerings. Highly aromatic, it wafts a perfume of honeysuckle, orchard blossom and fuzzy peach skin. The palate is more viscous than the nose implies, but there’s enough acidity to keep it fresh. Peach and lemon flavors linger on the finish. Drink with Thai curry or a similarly bold Southeast Asian dish.

This has bright, ripe peach and apricot aromas with bright, floral perfume. There’s a very pure, ripe-apricot core to the palate and smoothly fleshy texture. Works well. Drink now. Screw cap.

Limpid straw-yellow. Sharply defined citrus and pit fruit aromas pick up floral and spice accents with air. Juicy and light on its feet, offering sappy white peach, tangerine and melon flavors that deepen slowly through the back half. Finishes long and silky, with lingering floral and spicy ginger notes.
Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, then you know why. The new 2022 vintage has arrived and it’s beaming with energy and pure stone fruits. This is a beauty as always.
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.

“Soaring lemon cream aromatics accented by notes of sea spray, lemongrass and beeswax mark this coastal Chardonnay from Flowers on the Sonoma Coast. The palate is fresh and linear. Oyster shell salinity, bee pollen and grilled lemon make for a savoury balance with delicate crushed chalk minerality.”
Every year, Pierre Sparr’s Alsacian Riesling is one of the top scoring wines in the under $20 category. There’s a consistency there and consumers know they can count on a Riesling that is aromatic, fruity, elegant, clean and vibrant. Pierre Sparr wines are extremely food-friendly especially in the widely praised 2021 vintage where quality rose to an all-time high. It’s a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.
