Domaine Danielle Laurent vineyard is Laurent Montalieu’s home vineyard at Solena Estate. It’s a special, special vineyard that runs on a severe slope and shares the same hill as Shea Vineyard. But unlike the Shea Pinot which required a favor from Anne to secure, Laurent is Anne’s boss – so securing a few choice plots to further her Single-Vineyard Trousse Chemise project was “no big deal”. But, in fact it really was.
No doubt Anne’s tireless dedication to Hyland and Solena over the past decade plus earned her a chance to make a single-vineyard off this special sentimary soiled vineyard along Y-C’s rolling hills. But she’s the first one to do it!
Founded in 2000 by Laurent Montalieu and Danielle Andrus (Gary’s daughter), the 80-acre vineyard has long been a particularly sweet spot on winemakers’ radars. But for the past twenty years, Danielle and Laurent have turned down dozens of requests for fruit off the vineyard, opting instead to use it for their perennial Wine Spectator Top 100 feature, Solena Estate’s Grand Cuvee as well as the crown jewel of the Solena lineup, the DDL Vineyard Pinot.

Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
At J Vineyards, Nicole is nothing short of a magician, making 30 different skus or more each vintage between her Pinots, Chardonnays, and Sparkling wines. For the vineyard’s flagship Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, up to 100 individual small lots are combined to make this great wine. Somehow, the blend is effortless–a quintessential RRV Pinot that has those soaring aromatics, bright red fruits, clove, and nutmeg spice with perfect balance.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
90 Points, James Suckling
Damien has crafted a delicious Médoc, full of character with dense black currant and cherry fruit, cedar, tobacco and wonderful complexity. It’s silky complexion is what pushes it over the edge (and, of course, the price!) It doesn’t hurt that it comes from a 95-point Left Bank vintage that the Wine Advocate declared, “outstanding.”
