Anne Sery Martindale has been making serious waves with her Pinots as of late, especially amongst the top restaurants in NYC.
Her wines were already the by-the-glass pour at Chinese Tuxedo, Lure Fishbar, the Mandarin Oriental, Chef Carmellini’s The Dutch, Little Park, and the Westlight among others… And that’s before Super-Somm Rajat Parr tapped Anne to make an exclusive Pinot Noir just for Daniel Boulud’s restaurants.
But the Denis Dubourdieu protege had cut her teeth at the University of Bordeaux and despite all the Pinot success, she still had the itch to make a truly great Bordeaux-styled American wine. Of course, Oregon would be an unlikely home, so she began a hunt that took months to complete finally landing a few hours north in Washington State.
She decided to dip her toes in the Washington water and make a Trousse Chemise Columbia Valley Cabernet the past two years while she made new contacts each vintage.
But in 2018, in her third year, Anne dove head first into the deep end with the help of her mentor, Laurent Montalieu, securing two extremely precious contracts with some of the oldest, most-established vineyards in the state – setting the stage for refined, structured reds reminiscent of her Left Bank origins.
Anne did me the courtesy of extending the terms of the NDA to me so I could know exactly what’s in the bottle, but I obviously can’t tell you. But I can tell you she got the grapes for peanuts and the reason for the owner’s discretion is quite obvious.

Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
It’s no surprise the Wine Advocate has called the Ventoux a “screaming bargain.” Carved off the left bank of the Rhone River, the 2020 Delas Ventoux is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine with wonderful crushed red fruits, a silky mouthfeel, tremendous structure and that signature Rhone spice on the finish. I haven’t had this wine available for a few vintages, but I figure it’s the perfect springtime Red to bring back in the fold!
The 2021 Napa Valley East side Cuvee is an instant classic. From the first whiff to the moment it hits the lips, its clear that this is a fabulously concentrated, serious wine: black in color, and featuring aromas of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. The mouthfeel is plush and voluptuous with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging.

Domaine Jaume Vinsobres Altitude 420 is an old-vine Grenache-Syrah blend from vineyards planted in Les Collines at some of the highest points in the Rhône. The Jaumes have farmed these dizzying elevations at their estate in Vinsobres for 100+ years. The 2020 is one of his best yet, pristine and fresh, a bowl full of berried-up fruit yet with the tension and length that belies its humble price. Incredible bang for the buck, tailor-made for anyone’s house red, and a slam dunk for any kind of meat on the bone.
