Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been making wine in Ribeauvillé, Alsace. There is probably no single family that has done more for white wine than the Trimbachs, who in their 13 generations of rich winemaking tradition have literally accomplished every significant achievement one could possibly achieve in wine. Led by the legendary Jean Trimbach, there simply isn’t a winery that carries a candle to the Trimbachs around the Michelin Star world. That is how good their full lineup is year in, year out.
During my time at Jean-Georges, Trimbach’s wines were featured on every tasting menu. One of my favorite wine traveling memories was spending a day with Jean Trimbach and his wife in Ribeauvillé Alsace. I could not believe their library collection of wines and it seemed like no matter what year they pulled out, each was more spectacular than the next.
So I was excited during my recent tasting of the full portfolio of wines, and even delighted when I got my pick of the litter – at a price too good to be true.
The 2019 is textbook Alsatian Riesling – made in the Trimbach house style – namely completely dry. While James Suckling, in his 92 point review, exclaims “Bring on the Oysters,” the reason we featured these wines so prominently at Jean-Georges is because of how the flavors highlight so many flavor combinations. AKA The PERFECT food pairing wine.

Bring on the oysters! This is so fresh and bright with plenty of apple, pear and citrus to balance the crisp acidity and the minerality that adds so much interest to the finish.

Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, then you know why. The new 2022 vintage has arrived and it’s beaming with energy and pure stone fruits. This is a beauty as always.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
94 Points, James Suckling – 93 Points, Decanter
“Soaring lemon cream aromatics accented by notes of sea spray, lemongrass and beeswax mark this coastal Chardonnay from Flowers on the Sonoma Coast. The palate is fresh and linear. Oyster shell salinity, bee pollen and grilled lemon make for a savoury balance with delicate crushed chalk minerality.”
