The Supremus’ winemaking team is led by Franco Bernabei, the world-class oncologist who has served as consultant to several of the most prestigious estates in Italy. The majority of his projects at Folonari, Felsina, Fontodi or Sartori are offered at prices far beyond today’s price tag though they’re all critically-acclaimed Tuscan gems, and a testament to the mastery of his craft.
For the Supremus project, Bernabei partnered directly with Italian Wine Importer extraordinaire Neil Empson for Direct Import. Select vineyard sites were chosen from Maremma, Colline Pisane, and Colli Fiorentini. The vineyards are quite mature – over 25 years old and almost all over 1,000 feet in elevation.
Today’s 2016 Supremus Toscana is an under-$30 Tuscan knockout, a 94-point home run of a wine. James Suckling – in his 94 point review notes that it’s “Wonderfully silky and juicy with an abundance of freshly crushed berries. Very fine. One of the finest wines they have made.”
I concur. Deep Crimson in color, with bright red fruits, crushed blueberries and violets, and topped off with a finish that won’t quit. Only 500 cases were made total. A mere ¼ of that made it Stateside. Drink now or throw it in the cellar for another 5 to 10 years.

94 Points, James Suckling
Pretty aromas of rosehip, pomegranate, raspberry, blueberry orange zest and cedar. It’s medium bodied with sleek fine tannins. Wonderfully silky and juicy with an abundance of freshly crushed berries. Very fine. One of the finest wines they have made. Drink or hold.

#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator
92 Points, Wine Spectator – 91 Points, James Suckling
“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Xavier Vignon’s brand spanking new CDR 100% is a thing of beauty. It’s already got a blessing from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who described this wine as, “Full-bodied, concentrated and supple”. This is a gorgeous and intricate blend that features all of the Southern Rhone appellations. This year, the blend was 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Cinsault, 7% Marselan, 6% Terret Noir. Nobody can do it like the mad scientist, Xavier Vignon.
92 Points, Vinous – 92 Points, James Suckling – 91 Points, Wine & Spirits
“The 2021 Malbec Reserva, from Vistalba, Lujan de Cuyo, was 60% aged in barrels for 12 months. Purple in color. The nose presents notes of fresh plum and violets, white pepper, strawberry, hints of spice and aromas from the aging process. It’s initially indulgent in the mouth, with good fat, and volume and a velvety texture. The flavors are bold and full-bodied. This 2021 overdelivers at the price.” -Vinous
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
