I have our second ever Santa’s Whiskey Trio, with three of my own Nicholas Single Barrel Whiskeys at a price that would make the big guy in Red blush. These are a sampling of some of what I think are the very best single barrel whiskeys from around the country with Kentucky, Alabama and Wyoming represented here today. Here are the three bottles which offer very differing styles of the good stuff:
1 btl: Clyde May’s 5 Year Nicholas Single Barrel Selected Bourbon Whiskey #2
1 btl: Maker’s Mark Private Selection Nicholas Barrel Reserve #3
1 btl: Wyoming Whiskey Private Stock Nicholas Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon Whiskey

The juice here is so pure and elegant, it tastes much more like a $80/bottle of Tequila than one going for half the price, but that’s why I love these single barrel deals so much. The value is insane. This Reposado spent just under 12 months in used bourbon barrels. Golden brown with fresh agave, oak & vanilla. Remarkably smooth finish. This is one of those oddball tequila’s that is good enough to just sip on the rocks but cheap enough to use to make one hell of a margarita.

“Truly great stuff, this wine performed at a three-digit level both in the horizontal tasting of 2005s in Baltimore, as well as in Montreal at this mini-vertical. This sensational, opaque, bluish/purple wine offers up notes of vanillin, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, plus a touch of licorice. The wine hits the palate with a thunderous cascade of ripe, rich, concentrated fruit. It is full-bodied, multidimensional and layered. The tannins are beautifully integrated but still present, and the wood, acidity, alcohol, etc., are all beautifully assimilated in this magnificent, majestic vintage of Angelus.” -Robert Parker, Jr.
92 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a huge favorite of folks in the Red Bank area. It’s a bold, unapologetic Chardonnay with juicy notes of peach, lemon sorbet, baking spice and vanilla with a rich, creamy middle and plenty of natural acidity to balance it out. The lemon vanilla finish is perhaps the wine’s calling card or the sheer drinkability of it all. Either way, it’s a Chard that people adore. It’s no wonder Wine Enthusiast called this, “a big win for fans of this bold style”.
