One of the many things I’ve learned on my trips to Kentucky is that a lot of the distillers actually drink rye over bourbon. I remember after an hour of tasting barrel after barrel of bourbon with Eddie Russell at Wild Turkey the barrel that got him more excited than any other was his private barrel of rye. It absolutely blew me away. Was it for sale? Hell no. Since that tasting 2 years ago I’ve been on a mission to find a single barrel offering of a Nicholas Reserve Rye.
On my last visit to Brooklyn to taste at Widow Jane, they turned me on to New York’s Distilling Company. They make a killer rye made with New York State organically grown rye. I was blown away with their Ragtime Rye. They do very few single barrels so this is one rare bird. They always bottle at 90 proof but I talked them into bottling The Nicholas Barrel Reserve at 100 proof so you can have it over ice or mixed in a cocktail.
This a super smooth rye with a long lasting burn. Hints of marzipan, hazelnut, cinnamon and nutmeg on the palate. The nose reveals tobacco, anise, and mocha. Aged 3 years in charred American Oak and bottled at 100 proof. Each bottle is numbered and there aren’t many to go around. The rest of the barrel will only be available at Bar N.

Pairs well with fatty dishes, chocolate or simply enjoyed on its own (ice cube optional)
Bulleit isn’t usually one to come out with too many new or limited releases, but the ‘Frontier’ Limited Release bucks that trend. This American Single Malt was made with 100% malted barley, aged in new American spiced oak casks, and bottled at 43% alcohol. It hits with notes of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, candied orange, dried fruits, and maple syrup. She’s a beauty – just wish I had more to sell!
True whiskey and Knob Creek enthusiasts are going to go nuts for this one. Knob Creek Rye is as outstanding as it is rare but today we’re lucky enough to bring to you, my own single barrel of it. This is a big gold expression of Rye that holds nothing back. On the nose, there are hints of dill, rye and essence of charred oak. On the palate, you are hit over the head with baking spice, honey and freshly baked bread. The finish is certainly a warm “Kentucky Hug” that goes on forever.
Not Eligible for Futher Discount-From famed winemaker, Robert Foley comes an absolute delight of a bottle of wine. A seamless Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that is incredibly smoothly now but should have another decade easy of prime drinking. It is the definition of a Saturday Night bottle of wine. One to cherish for a special occasion.
Today I snagged a really special single barrel that I have been working on for nearly two years now with Old Forester. It’s a 128.2 proof dynamo that will blow you away, and you’ll love every single sip. The nose is of fresh leather, baking spices & cocoa. On the pallet, this one is a monster & hits you with baked apple. brown sugar, vanilla & cinnamon. The finish goes on for two days long with notes of fig, cherries & clove. It’s big, but she’s a beauty.
