Not Eligible for Further DiscountThe tahona is a giant two-ton volcanic wheel dug from the local area and rolled in a circle to crush the roasted agave hearts. Almost all tequila these days is made using an industrial conveyor roller mill process. This is obviously more efficient and yields much more juice (which is bad for the quality). Like most things though, the old school version TASTES BETTER.
This particular barrel is one of the most complex tequilas I’ve ever tasted. A bit of bourbon barrel gives way to nuanced notes of citrus, black pepper, and a little tease of ginger. Words really don’t do this justice. I suggest you taste this side by side with any tequila in existence.
Of course, the tahona method of making tequila makes them substantially more expensive. Typically, you need to pay $100 or more for a good Tahona Anejo. Not for the Nicholas Barrel Reserve Roca Patron.
This is my favorite part of our barrel program: Nicholas Wines customers get to cherry pick the very best barrel (IMO) from the Roca line up but basically pay the price of Patron’s regular Anejo. TRUST ME, this is no regular Patron Anejo. Don’t believe me? Taste them side by side!!!!

True whiskey and Knob Creek enthusiasts are going to go nuts for this one. Knob Creek Rye is as outstanding as it is rare but today we’re lucky enough to bring to you, my own single barrel of it. This is a big gold expression of Rye that holds nothing back. On the nose, there are hints of dill, rye and essence of charred oak. On the palate, you are hit over the head with baking spice, honey and freshly baked bread. The finish is certainly a warm “Kentucky Hug” that goes on forever.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
90-92 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 91 Pts (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 91 Pts, Decanter
The wines get consistent high praise but 2018 is truly something special. 90-92 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. 91 points and an Editor’s Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast. 91 more from Decanter who provides “There is so much to enjoy in the smaller appellations this year. Drinking Window 2022 – 2031” and another 90 point score from James Suckling. This is a home run value – especially for the price.
The third release of three batches from Booker’s Bourbon 2023 Collection is Booker’s Batch 2023-03 ‘Might Fine Batch.’ These mini-releases have become extremely popular, and for good reason. “The vanilla and brown sugar sweet notes come through very well from the white oak barrels this bourbon aged in for over seven years. The taste is great and full bodied; when I added a splash of water, it opened up some great flavors, with a finish that gives a lovely “Kentucky Hug. My Dad would say that this is a Mighty Fine batch of Booker’s.” -Fred Noe
