The Fellugas are now onto their 5th generation with Roberto Felluga at the helm and mentoring his daughter Ilaria into the family business. A lot has changed for the Fellugas, with them now controlling vineyards in four different parts of Collio which allows them to grow a variety of different grapes.
More than 75% of their production is white wine, a testament to the international demand they have received for their beautiful, fresh white wine expressions. Wine Spectator called the Felluga family, “a pioneer in Friuli since the 1950’s.” The family makes nearly a dozen different whites from both international and indigenous grapes. Tasting through a white wine flight with Marco Felluga is like a who’s who of white grapes, but also one of those tastings where each glass is better than the next.
Their Pinot Grigio Mongris is their reserve Pinot Grigio bottling. It still spends most of its time in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and aromatics, but it also spends a little time in big hungarian barrels, adding a touch of richness and complexity to this beaming Pinot Grigio while also giving it ageability.
Unsurprisingly, the critics once again raved with Vinous and James Suckling both giving the wine 90+ point scores. Vinous called it, “round and enveloping with a stimulating core of zesty green citrus”. Suckling gave it a big 92-point score and highlighted its “concentrated, complex and spicy palate”.

92 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of sliced apples, peaches, stones, herbs and white pepper. It’s medium-bodied with fresh acidity and a concentrated, complex and spicy palate. Delicious finish. Drink now.
90 Points, Vinous
The sweetly scented 2020 Pinot Grigio Mongris soothes with its bouquet of white flowers, ripe pear and hints of vanilla bean. It’s round and enveloping with a stimulating core of zesty green citrus and brisk acids that create wonderful contrasts. This leaves the palate buzzing with residual tension, while tapering off long, spicy and perfumed.

Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
92 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – 90 Points, James Suckling
The winery could never expected their Tuscan Vermentino would become as integral as it has – even 25 years later, it’s still a key piece of the puzzle for Campo Maccione. It’s an unassuming wine with great viscosity and bright, savory flavors that way overdelivers for the price. James Suckling agreed, as did Wine Enthusiast. Suckling gave it a 90 and deemed it “an interesting take on Tuscan Vermentino.” Wine Enthusiast took it up a few notches, attaching a coveted ‘Best Buy’ designate to the wine along with a 92-point review for the wine “with a sophisticated restraint.”
The Zenato family has built up quite the reputation for delivering exceptional value with their red and whites in Veneto. Their Pinot Grigio is a particularly great value, punching way above its weight class. Delicately scented and soft on the palate, it offers classic citrus and floral notes in a balanced elegant style. It’s smooth and refreshing with a long, pleasant finish. Great with food.
One of the best places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. And within Asti, there is no white wine calling card that holds a candle to Moscato. Here it is king. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Moscato is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. This is serious, high-quality and hand-harvested Moscat, that oozes with sweet tropical fruits and a hint of minerality that stays on your tongue with each sip. This is also the perfect wine for anyone searching for a low alcohol option as well.
