Annie Favia (Favia Wines) and Andy Erickson (Screaming Eagle) are arguably the most formidable winemaking pair in the country. A few years back the two had the idea to birth Leviathan– a project centered around making the biggest and best red wine each vintage. Only one wine, nothing held back.
Together using their ample connections and many of the same vineyard locations that go into Favia wines, the two source Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot for each year’s blend. Aided by the perfectly uneventful and even 2018 harvest, Andy and Annie’s 2018 Leviathan comes out of the gates absolutely roaring.
Big and brash and dark purple in hue, the wine exudes aromas of fresh picked berries, violets, sage and a kiss of cedar. It’s a voluptuous wine with chewy, supple tannins that are actually amazing round and smooth already. Though you can enjoy this big boy right now, this is the kind of BIG RED that could use a little cellar time, but once you pop that cork– you better be ready to go!

Blackberry, fresh boysenberry and asphalt aromas with some violets and rose petals. Medium to full body. Some carbon to the dark fruit. Tasty and delicious. Chewy now, but we like it already. Drinkable now, but will improve with age.

Winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val) continues to excel even while others struggle. In 2017, he still managed to deliver a beautiful and opulent Napa Valley Cabernet that’s both dark and juicy. The wine hails from both Coombsville and Rutherford, giving it distinct characteristics and a lot of drive. Deep ruby to the rim with excellent concentration, notes of Bing cherries, raspberry pie and hints of vanilla. On the palate, big wonderfully jammy fruit with young but impressive tannins and great length. The finish leaves notes of black cherry, and baked blueberry pie. Fantastic Napa value.
It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.

“The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making…This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born.” -100 points, Vinous

“The 2020 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is truly sensational. It begins with striking aromas of fresh blackberries, blueberries and dark plums that are laced with fresh spring florals, mocha, sweet exotic spices, graphite and gravel nuances all taking shape. The palate is full-bodied and displays a remarkable combination of power and elegance throughout. This is beautifully structured and extremely expressive, as it possesses outstanding depth and concentration all they way through the long, finessed finish. Year after year, the Columbia Valley Cabernet is one of the most impressive wines, and there is no exception here, as it combines all the wonderful qualities of the 2020 vintage from Quilceda Creek into one expression. This is fantastic already and readers will be in for a real treat, as this simply marvelous wine will continue to deliver the goods for years to come.”
