Doing a little research on the wine, I discovered that the Counterpoint Cabernet is rounded off with some Grand Cru quality Merlot from Pickberry vineyard. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the vineyard that made Ravenswood a household name.
Combining the fruit from the northeast slope of Sonoma Mountain with their own lauded estate (re-planted in the late 1960’s), gives this wine a ton of expression, complexity and distinction. It’s an unmistakably Sonoma Mountain, blessed with the iconic sweet, plush black fruit off the high elevation, cool-climate spot.
Unsurprisingly, I’m also not the only one who really likes this wine – Virginia Boone, longtime reviewer for Wine Enthusiast agreed with my assessment, giving the wine a 93-point score and labeling it “classically structured” and “vibrantly approachable”. San Francisco’s International Wine Competition took it a few steps further, finding this wine as their 96-point Double Gold Medal winner for the 2021 tasting.

93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Crisply focused in currant, dried herb and cedar, this is a classically structured red that is vibrantly approachable and ample to drink in its youth. With just 30% new French oak, it delivers forested earthiness and high-toned freshness that complement each other well for a very fair price.

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
