The wait time for getting an allocation of Kosta Browne 4 Barrel Pinot Noir is 12 years. 12 years for 3 bottles of wine. Crazy– but I understand. Few wines made in America are more sought after than Kosta Browne; a winery that has a knack for making sexy, hedonistic Pinot that is almost impossible not to love at first sip. It’s also really hard to get– forget the 4 Barrel Pinot, I am talking about just their basic appellation wines.
I have 6 bottles of the Cerise Vineyard– their boldest, most fruit-forward, juicy berry filled beauty that is a joy to drink. It’s not as ageworthy as some of their other bottlings, but nothing from KB shows better in its youth– it’s flashy, yet really well structured and harmonized. A well-rounded Pinot.

96 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Both powerful and delicious, this full-bodied wine offers great depth of flavors, breadth in the mouthfilling texture and excellent length on the finish. It’s packed with ripe, tempting black cherry, nervy rhubarb, mint and spicy clove on the palate, while a velvety blanket of fine-grained tannins adds grip. Best through 2027.

From Anderson Valley, the 2016 Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard has a touch of old-world charm in its savory, complex bouquet of dried earth, forest floor, leafy herbs, and dried red fruits. Complex, weightless, and elegant on the palate, it’s a great example of the style of the 2016 vintage and will continue drinking nicely for at least 7-8 years.
94 Points, James Suckling
This is a beautiful and subtle pinot with floral and ripe strawberry aromas that follow through to a medium to full body. Fine tannins and a refined finish. Very polished and inviting. A new wine from here. Drink or hold.

Winemaker Pascal Sirat consistently puts out some of the best value Bordeaux in the region but he may have outdone himself in what was a stellar 2019 vintage throughout the region. Just south of Pomerol, the vines at Panchille borrow deep in the soil. The resulting wines are ripe but fresh, with an aromatic complexity and stony finish usually reserved for wine twice the price. Daniel Boulud tells me it’s been the hottest bottle of wine at Bar Boulud for over a month, so I figured I’d better hurry up and secure my allocation! Don’t miss it.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
With seemingly infinite access to some of the absolute very best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagner’s set out to make Quilt– a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa (Oakville, St Helena, Atlas Peak, Coombsville, Calistoga, and Howell Mountain.) The brand new 2021 edition is a beauty – deeply concentrated, rich and a truly show stopping Cabernet. It’s a dark, hedonistic blend that combines elegance with power and pairs the two together effortlessly.
The 2021 Napa Valley East side Cuvee is an instant classic. From the first whiff to the moment it hits the lips, its clear that this is a fabulously concentrated, serious wine: black in color, and featuring aromas of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. The mouthfeel is plush and voluptuous with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging.
