Driving into the little town of Dundee in Oregon on 99W is quite the trip. The town is home to only a few hundred people, yet some of the commercial addresses are the most famous and sought after names in Oregon wine. Antica Terra, Erath, Evening Land, Four Graces, and Purple Hands are some of the big names that call Dundee home.
But my favorite to visit by far is Four Graces. It’s one of the absolute best places in Oregon to have a glass of wine. An old converted barn is the centerpiece for the tasting experience which overlooks one of the estate vineyards. The people are down to earth, the tasting is relaxed and affordable, and the wines are out of this world.
If you ever visit, and I strongly suggest you do, the 4-time Top 100 Wine Spectator wine of the year winners will pour you their estate Pinot Blanc – a super vibrant, tangy and steely white wine that they ferment in a giant stainless tank. The wine has found itself on the top 100 list before. Today’s wine from the 2019 vintage didn’t earn those honors, but did receive two rave 90-point reviews. At the price, there’s nothing remotely close in domestic white wines.
2019 has a real chance of being considered Oregon’s greatest ever vintage, and that’s a distinction that is shared for both red and white wines. With an ideally wet spring, followed by warm but not super hot, and consistently dry conditions through harvest, the purity of the fruit and the size of the healthy clusters is a sight to behold.

90 Points, Vinous
Glistening straw. Ripe pear, white peach and tangerine aromas are sharpened by a spicy ginger flourish. Silky and open-knit, showing a suave interplay of depth and energy to the sappy citrus and orchard fruit flavors. A floral note emerges on a long, smooth finish that features a lingering suggestion of pear nectar. The wine would pair wonderfully with spicy southeast Asian dishes or salty cheese and charcuterie.
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Tart yet still rather soft on the palate, this brings a mix of light green herbs, apples, lemons and limes. The overall weight is light and tangy, the balance spot on. It’s a most refreshing style to enjoy through 2022.

Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
We’re nearing the end of what was a flawlessly crafted, high energy coastal Chardonnay release from one of California’s hottest spots. It’s still every bit as bright and refreshing as you could want and it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with a hint of that limestone-influenced minerality. It’s a fantastic wine for all seasons, the perfect pair with mixed seafood, summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish.
The newly released 2022 Domaine Laroche Chablis Saint Martin has some big shoes to fill as the last four vintages have earned 92-points or higher, but the early indications are that this is line with previous vintages if not even a little bit ahead at this stage. The problem is – there’s almost none to go around with much smaller yields. Still this is beautiful and crisp, with good focus, energy and depth. I get the signature green fruits on the nose, with some Asian pear, and a hint of jasmine blossom. There’s a beautiful mineral streak that highlights this one. It’s a fantastic White Burg for the price.

If you’ve never heard of Bisci, let’s start here. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called Giuseppe Bisci’s Verdicchio “one of the finest I’ve ever tasted,” and noted that “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” A staple at $85/bottle for both French Laundry and Eleven Madison Park. “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” – The Wine Advocate
