Steve Dutton farms over eighty unique, separate vineyards located in the coolest areas of the Russian River Valley, primarily in the Green Valley appellation at Dutton Ranch. Together with winemaker Dan Goldfield, the two have been an unrivaled force in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, creating a reputation of the region’s best known winery along with the sparkling house, Iron Horse. Five of Dutton Ranch’s eighty vineyards each year are used to make the duo’s Russian River Valley Chardonnay– a wine that has helped propel them to great heights over the years.
Dutton-Goldfield’s Dutton Ranch Chardonnay emphasizes the bright crystalline citrus flavors and tropical overtones that reflect the pair’s vision of classic Russian River Valley Chardonnay. Most vineyards are below the fog line and the average vine age is 35 years. That helps make rich, deep and complex Chardonnays in the cool climate style.
The 2018 is a total winner. A lively, energetic old-world style Chardonnay with fresh citrus and stone fruits, a touch of salinity and piercing minerality. Flavors of green apple, mango, apricot and lemon are accented by toasted hazelnuts and toffee. The acidity, the fleshy fruit, the buttery creaminess of the mid-palate… this is a beauty.

93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a 100% barrel-fermented wine from such stellar sites as Mill Station, Sullivan and Walker Hill. Lively, fresh and focused, it has great acidity and tension, a pleasing energy and minerality that boosts lovely flavors of green apple, Meyer lemon and mango, finishing with balanced richness.

Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
It’s an electric white Burgundy, with a limestone-laced aromatic profile of green apple, pear and hazelnut. Refined and high-toned, the pure, delicious fruit that is a hallmark of this terrific vintage, finishes long and fresh, with a mile-long mineral streak.
The newly released 2022 Domaine Laroche Chablis Saint Martin has some big shoes to fill as the last four vintages have earned 92-points or higher, but the early indications are that this is line with previous vintages if not even a little bit ahead at this stage. The problem is – there’s almost none to go around with much smaller yields. Still this is beautiful and crisp, with good focus, energy and depth. I get the signature green fruits on the nose, with some Asian pear, and a hint of jasmine blossom. There’s a beautiful mineral streak that highlights this one. It’s a fantastic White Burg for the price.
