Our run with Chateau Marjosse in Bordeaux has been incredible, and it’s only getting better. We’ve done a number of offers of the estate’s Red Bordeaux, but never of their white. If anyone knows a little bit about Marjosse or their owner/winemaker…this one might sound the alarm.
Chateau Marjosse is home to one of Bordeaux’s most famous and respected winemakers, Pierre Lurton (Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem). It is quite literally his home estate. He calls this special place his “secret garden that gives [him] energy” and if you’ve met Pierre, you’ve probably wondered how this man has so much of it.
One distinct advantage that the Chateau enjoys over the competition is the soil.
Even though the fruit comes from Entre-Deux-Mers, it has the exact kind of limestone that you’d find in abundance throughout the Saint-Emilion property. That’s extremely rare for EDM – it gives that same special lift to the wine, with bright acidity to match a pretty intense and highly concentrated frame.
Every year, the Marjosse Blanc is one of those few white Bordeaux releases worth all the anticipation. Still, no year’s release has been quite as decorated as this one.

Always terrific, the 2023 Chateau Marjosse Blanc is no exception and has vibrant crushed citrus, lemon zest and minty herb notes in its medium-bodied, bright, racy and mineral-driven profile. It’s a beautiful white well worth seeking out.
92 Points, James Suckling
This has juicy and tense fruit with a zesty and spicy character. Notes of apples and pears. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and crunchy with racy acidity.
91 Points, Decanter
High spice, showing cloves and white pepper along with attractive fleshy peaches. Chinese spice pear, nectarine pit, good balance, gentle finish. 5% oak for ageing, with the rest in stainless steel.
90 Points, Vinous
The 2023 Marjosse Blanc is delicious. Crisp and inviting, the 2023 will make a delightful aperitif-style white over the next few years. Crushed rocks, mint, white pepper and lime lend lovely nuance throughout. Floral top notes and tropical overtones really explode on the finish.
90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2023 Marjosse Blanc offers up aromas of white fruits, spring flowers and lemon oil intertwined with exotic notes, followed by a medium-bodied, juicy and balanced, incisive and round palate, concluding with a mouthwatering, saline finish. This well-crafted white from Bordeaux, a blend of 38% Sauv Blanc, 52% Semillon, 5% Sauvignon Gris and 5% Muscadelle punches above its weight, offering a level of quality and complexity that belies its price point.
The newly released Riesling Feinherb 2021 is a lively, juicy wine with an elegant bouquet of minerals, wet stone and ripe fruit. On the palate, the wine’s slight off-dry component is beautifully balanced by the steely acidity typical of the Mosel. Because this is freshly released, the fruit is vibrant and succulent and it comes in somewhere between off-dry and semi-sweet. It’s a great example of Riesling, especially at the price.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.

“The 2018 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard marks the beginning of winemaker Joe Nielsen’s tenure at the winery. Pouring a medium yellow with a light golden hue, it’s most reserved of the flight aromatically at the moment, with yellow chamomile flowers, ripe peach, beeswax, and white flowers. Full-bodied, it retains excellent tension and focus on the palate, with apricot, orange zest, and a savory finish with a bit of spice. I suspect this will come around and open with time. Drink 2024-2030.” -Jeb Dunnuck
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
