Anne Sery is a red hot Oregon winemaker who has seen her wines poured at Bar Boulud, Chinese Tuxedo, Lure Fishbar, & the Mandarin Oriental, The Dutch, Little Park, and the Westligh all in the last few years. Not bad for a winemaker that has never even been to New York City!
Her newly released 2021 Benoni Rose is a total winner. It’s gorgeous, zipped up Rosé of Pinot Noir with a shimmering, brilliant pink color. Bright and energetic on the nose, displaying fresh wild strawberry and pink grapefruit scents. Dry and racy on the palate, it offers brisk red berry and citrus rind flavors with great lift and tension. The finish is long, with incredible food friendly acidity. This is such a beauty– make sure to snag it while it’s around!

In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
This one comes from very old vines in eight different lieux-dits, with the largest portion coming from Le Fourneau. Harvest is all by hand, and this wine sees 18 months in barrels with only 10% new oak. Clement (rightfully) believes that keeping the oak primarily neutral here brings out the most authentic and intense expression of his Pinot Noirs. Take a sip or two of this and you will know exactly what I mean.
For Chad, the 2022 vintage proved challenging, but nothing he couldn’t handle. The big frost in April took a toll on one of his go-to usual spots in the Dundee Hills. But he made some phone calls, talked to a few key people, and locked into some absolutely killer fruit from McMinnville a little further south down the Van Duzer Corridor where the frost had no impact. His newly released 2022 is a juicy, laser focused Pinot with tremendous energy and precision. A true gift from our favorite winemaker.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
