This is a treat from the oldest winery in Italy and one of the oldest family run businesses in the entire world. Their 2021 Chianti DOCG is an absolute ringer – a sizzling Sangiovese dominant blend with soaring aromatics and crunchy, clean red fruits that make it both a standout with a fresh pizza as well as a mighty house Red that deserves a Cabernet glass and a rocking chair by the fireplace and nothing else.
95 Points, Decanter
On the nose, herbs and lavender dominate, as notes of meat stew swish in the background. As it continues to open up, various black fruits continue to emerge. The palate is marked by bright acids (perfect for fatty cuisine), black cherry and touch of leather. This is a perfect candidate for the cellar and will be a stellar pull over the next decade.
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast – 90 Points, Decanter
Arguably their best quality to price wine is the Chianti Classico. It’s a bold and incredibly expressive Sangiovese that blends together a number of different parcels from around the estate. It’s got a beautiful silky smooth center with bright red fruits and even a tad of rusticity. A wine like this was just made to be enjoyed at the dinner table. With already a 90-point review from both Decanter and Wine Enthusiast, I’m assuming Antonio Galloni and company will come in with similar high praise, but I couldn’t wait around.
