The seventh generation of Ogier winemakers in Cote Rotie, Stephane has a distinct advantage over virtually all competition with access to his family’s land throughout Cote Rotie’s most cherished vineyards in Lancement, Côte-Rozier, and La Viallière. But just because he was given a leg up doesn’t make him a good winemaker… but making a few 100-point wines certainly does!
Stephane has become a force in the Rhone and one of France’s brightest young stars. His Côte-Rôties are some of the wine world’s most celebrated collectibles with the single-vineyard bottlings starting at $400/bottle and going up from there. In the short time since taking over, production at the winery has doubled in size a few times, with his collection of wines earning lavish praise from Jeb Dunnuck who called it “one of the most exciting domaines in the world of wine today.”
If you can get your hands on any of his wines, I recommend you do. Parker’s Wine Advocate has called his wines “worth the search” and I’m telling you– allocations of any of his wines are gone before you can blink. This is a Côte-Rôtie bargain if there is such thing– a double 93-point beauty that is big, seductive and gets better and better with more time in the glass. It’s an incredible showing.

An alluring style, with concentrated cassis and plum puree flavors that move gracefully as the silky structure and perfumy black tea and bergamot notes flitter through. The long, refined finish features subtle, lingering minerality. Best from 2022 through 2033.
93 Points, James Suckling
There’s a lot to like in this 2016. Pepper-dusted, red berries, strawberries, red plums and raspberries. Refined herbs on offer, too. The palate is succulent, fleshy and soft with tangy, red berries and cherries. This has a more approachable feel than the Reserve bottling from here. Drink or hold.

The newly released Fiancetto Howell Mt. Cabernet is a dream – a gorgeous, elegant dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that is it picks up time in the glass, unfurls its full signature of cedar laced cassis nose and mid palate of chocolate-covered cherries and savory spices. Only four palates of this (224 cases) were made off a gorgeous, sprawling high elevation spot 1500 feet above sea level. It’s full and plush and finishes fresh and oh so long. The price is crazy for Howell Mountain Cabernet but that’s what Ry Richards and Fiancetto is all about.
#3 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2021
96 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 95 Points, Wine Spectator
We are one of the very few folks who have Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. This is definitely not one to miss. The 2016 vintage showcases this prized vineyard in all its glory; notes of wild black fruit, thyme, mint, eucalyptus, and bay are lifted and enjoyed with the polished tannin and mouthwatering freshness of this wine. Regarded as one of the best vintages in the last few decades, the 2016 Martha’s Vineyard has been aged to perfection for immediate enjoyment at release and will continue to reward for the next 20+ years.

“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
The 2021 Napa Valley East side Cuvee is an instant classic. From the first whiff to the moment it hits the lips, its clear that this is a fabulously concentrated, serious wine: black in color, and featuring aromas of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. The mouthfeel is plush and voluptuous with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging.
