Nestled in the hills on the North West side of the Stags Leap District, Silverado Vineyards Winery has been a favorite wine country destination and home to some of the Napa Valley’s most-recognized wines for almost forty years.
In 1981, Ron and Diane Disney Miller and her mother, Lillian Disney, established Silverado Vineyards to make wines from the historic sites of the estate the family owns. The winery was named in honor of the Silverado Vineyard, one of the first four in Stags Leap District to plant Cabernet in the 1960s. The vineyard pays homage to the abandoned mining town at the top of the Valley which also inspired the name of the famous Silverado Trail where Silverado Vineyards and other iconic wineries of the Stags Leap District are situated.
They are led by winemaker Jon Emmerich – who is amazingly only the second lead winemaker in the history of this great property. He is now into his 32nd vintage at Silverado, and shows no signs of slowing.
Silverado’s SOLO Cabernet is homage to the vineyard’s incredible history. In 1968, Silverado Vineyard became the fourth planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in the Stags Leap District. Over the next two decades, meticulous field selection created an entirely new clone of Cabernet Sauvignon. UC Davis designated this unique vine the Disney-Silverado Heritage clone. It is one of only three Cabernet Sauvignons to attain Heritage status – and the only one from Stags Leap District. Each year, the SOLO Cabernet honors this extraordinary clone. Each year, this incredible wine racks up big scores – of course the amazing 2016 vintage was no different.

96 Points, Tasting Panel
Ripe plum nose; smooth, velvety, and dense, with elegant style. Balanced and
complete, this gorgeous wine would be a great cellar addition.
94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
From the producer’s estate Silverado Vineyard (the fourth to be planted in the appellation to Cabernet Sauvignon), this 100% varietal wine impresses in dusty, gravelly rock and earthy clove and sage. Focused and fresh in underlying acidity, it has classic structure and graceful red fruit within moderated, balanced power and grace.
93 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Solo gives up notions of baked plums, cassis, blueberry compote and camphor with hints of unsmoked cigars and dusty soil. The palate is medium-bodied, soft and juicy with loads of earthy/mineral-inspired layers and a long, savory finish.
93 Points, James Suckling
Very strong, fresh violet and blue-rose notes on the nose of this fresh, vibrant cab. The palate has a very elegant, chalky texture with brightly cut, fresh blackcurrant flavors pervading the gently grippy, focused finish. Drink or hold.

In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.

“The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making…This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born.” -100 points, Vinous
