Sold Out! Sorry to all of those shut out. This one went quickly…
The story behind Round Pond is that they were really a family of Rutherford growers/farmers who fell into making their own wine. For years they sold off all of their Rutherford Estate Cab to their neighbors (take a look at a map and you’ll find they’re surrounded by the likes of Frogs Leap, Caymus, Honig, Beckstoffer, etc) but one year they decided to hold a little back to make wine for friends & family (kith and kin, to which their entry level wine pays homage.) That enterprise grew until they had some of Napa’s most talented consulting winemakers (Thomas Rivers Brown for one) making wine off these exemplary Rutherford lots.
This is their Estate wine, fully farmed off the property immediately surrounding their winery and tasting room in the heart of Rutherford. 2014 was in a stretch of several draught years, so the wine was richly concentrated and dark fruited, With a great cocoa finish and a backbone of acid that will help it hold up for some years to come.
Not only is this Cab drinking excellent right now, for THIS WEEKEND ONLY, it’s available for just $39/btl, $25/btl below the $64 online average price and well below $58.99, the lowest price online. How can we do it? Well with only 84 bottles available, I’m sure every last bottle will be spoken for before anyone even knows what happened.
Nicholas Tasting Note:
The 2014 Round Pond Cabernet Sauvignon is a massive, sleeping giant that is showing great after six years of slumber. Deep, dark purple to the rim, the wine builds with jammy dark fruits, big, supple tannins and good acidity to allow for great aging. Its texture and finish display the signature, leathery Rutherford style. This will be an excellent wine for the better part of the next two decades.

#1 Whisky of the Year (2023) – Whisky Advocate
“Our annual Top 20 Whiskies list is always filled with A-list names, along with a few lesser-knowns that make the grade. But it’s unusual for one of the latter to outshine the entire field, yet that’s precisely what happened this year, as Whisky Advocate’s panelists plucked a relative unknown from a group of big-name contenders. As we tasted, little did we know there was an upset in the making. Winning in a nearly unanimous vote, single malt scotch Glenglassaugh Sandend became our 2023 Whisky of the Year.” -Whisky Advocate

“Truly great stuff, this wine performed at a three-digit level both in the horizontal tasting of 2005s in Baltimore, as well as in Montreal at this mini-vertical. This sensational, opaque, bluish/purple wine offers up notes of vanillin, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, plus a touch of licorice. The wine hits the palate with a thunderous cascade of ripe, rich, concentrated fruit. It is full-bodied, multidimensional and layered. The tannins are beautifully integrated but still present, and the wood, acidity, alcohol, etc., are all beautifully assimilated in this magnificent, majestic vintage of Angelus.” -Robert Parker, Jr.
This is an extraordinary chance to lock into two of the best vintages of Jordan Cabernet ever made. This is one of California’s iconic producers of Cabernet, and both the 2009 and 2010 vintages were like a dream come true for superstar winemaker Rob Davis. Most of these bottles are long gone, but luckily I manage to snag enough to offer up a 2009, 2010 side-by-side Library vertical. These will fly out the door!
It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.
