The wine, the Novellum Chardonnay, is a collab from Domaine LaFage the famous Roussillon winery and iconoclast wine importer Eric Solomon. Parker called Solomon, “perhaps the best importer in the country” and said, “ [he] has a great talent for ferreting out spectacular wines from France and Spain.”
There’s so much to love about the wine, not forgetting the price tag, which still baffles me when I try to think about it. It’s very easy to see why Dunnuck called it a, “no brainer purchase”. I just don’t know how such a great food-friendly and sophisticated Chardonnay with bright citrus notes mixed with pure minerality could be so affordable?
My guess is this cuvee, which comes from multiple vineyard sources and therefore must be labeled as a ‘Vin de France’ is what forces the price point. It’s another example of creative winemakers making the best wine possible, rules and economics be damned.
But given the outstanding juice that’s in the bottle, the two iconic names behind it, and the 94-point score, I’m not asking too many questions.

A richer styled wine (I’ve compared this cuvée to a Chardonnay from Mark Aubert), the 2020 Novellum has a medium gold hue as well as a rich, powerful bouquet of caramelized lemon, honeyed almonds, candle wax, and toasted bread. Rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, and balanced, this is another no brainer purchase.

This is a super elegant Meursault from the family-run estate located in the village of Monthelie, between Volnay and Meursault in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. It leads with nutty aromas of brioche, fresh butter and delicate citrus and is extremely well structured, long and stylish with great purity of fruit.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, then you know why. The new 2022 vintage has arrived and it’s beaming with energy and pure stone fruits. This is a beauty as always.
