This beauty comes from Michael Mondavi and the 2016 miracle vintage. Garnering 98 points from both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, no vintage in Napa has been rated more highly or more age-worthy.
The 2016 Emblem Cabernet is a stunning cabernet for the price. Plucked from prized parcels high above St. Helena, it delivers the kind of value that Napa used to generate in abundance but hasn’t been able to offer due to such high demand. Of course, as always, the Mondavi Family is the exception to the rule.
Part of Robert Mondavi’s incredible legacy has been that he always offered a really good affordable cab. Sure the signature “M” by Mondavi like the Opus One gems before it are wine-writer favorites that command big scores, waitlists and $200+ price-tags. But in the “Emblem Cab” Michael and Robert Jr. offer up a $40 cab that still manages to embody all the best qualities in each great vintage.
From the “miracle” vintage of 2016 comes a big, full-bodied Napa Cab with lush red fruit, dark chocolate notes, and a touch of hazelnut and oak to round it out. With velvet-like tannins and a hint of creme de cassis, it’s textbook, well-made St. Helena Cab. Vintages like 2016 and the fruit it was able to produce in the hands of great winemakers like the Mondavis is a recipe for a killer bottle of Napa Valley Cab. Not to be missed by all Big Red fans.

90 Points, James Suckling
Damien has crafted a delicious Médoc, full of character with dense black currant and cherry fruit, cedar, tobacco and wonderful complexity. It’s silky complexion is what pushes it over the edge (and, of course, the price!) It doesn’t hurt that it comes from a 95-point Left Bank vintage that the Wine Advocate declared, “outstanding.”
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
WS #4 2019 Wine of the Year, 96 Points, Wine Spectator
2016 was an incredibly special year in Napa Valley. It was essentially the 5th straight vintage of near perfect-conditions and a lot of the big boys produced some of their biggest, most elegant Cabernets to date. Groth’s was still one of the standouts in any group, a deeply concentrated, weighty Cab with sappy, juicy fruit and a carefully intertwined tannic structure. Absolutely gorgeous.
