For hundreds of years, the only grapes grown in the Elqui Valley were used for the nation’s most popular spirit, Pisco, a yellowish Brandy made from fermented grape juice. It wasn’t until the early 2000’s that the Oliver Family came in and started Viña Mayu, eager to prove that the region’s unique weather patterns with chalky limestone and clay soils would actually be perfect for some varietals: specifically Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc.
The best part of Chilean wines? The price tags they still carry. With lively, sophisticated Sauvignon Blancs, this is the type of quality that commands $25+/btl in the States for domestic Sauv Blancs, and has even gone above $20 for a lot of the bottles out of Marlborough, NZ. But today, we’re right in the sweet spot- with a $15/btl of delicious Sauvignon Blanc, down to just $13.50/btl on cases.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called 2019, “a very good vintage overall in Chile” and honed in on Vina Mayu in particular. The winery earned several 90+ scores for their 2019s including an excellent 90pt review for this beauty. That’s a strong vote of confidence for a little known producer in an unheralded region that with wines this good, will not be flying under the radar much longer.

90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc has a pungent nose with notes of green peppercorns and green beans, intensely herbal, with the characteristic lightness of the northern wines and high altitude. This has the influence of the coast and has a somewhat salty aftertaste, pungent flavors and a refreshing mouthfeel.

The newly released Riesling Feinherb 2021 is a lively, juicy wine with an elegant bouquet of minerals, wet stone and ripe fruit. On the palate, the wine’s slight off-dry component is beautifully balanced by the steely acidity typical of the Mosel. Because this is freshly released, the fruit is vibrant and succulent and it comes in somewhere between off-dry and semi-sweet. It’s a great example of Riesling, especially at the price.
Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, then you know why. The new 2022 vintage has arrived and it’s beaming with energy and pure stone fruits. This is a beauty as always.
92 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – 90 Points, James Suckling
The winery could never expected their Tuscan Vermentino would become as integral as it has – even 25 years later, it’s still a key piece of the puzzle for Campo Maccione. It’s an unassuming wine with great viscosity and bright, savory flavors that way overdelivers for the price. James Suckling agreed, as did Wine Enthusiast. Suckling gave it a 90 and deemed it “an interesting take on Tuscan Vermentino.” Wine Enthusiast took it up a few notches, attaching a coveted ‘Best Buy’ designate to the wine along with a 92-point review for the wine “with a sophisticated restraint.”
Sonoma Coast is well-known as a cool-climate region, perfect for growing Chardonnay. That’s why it’s such a big deal for Route Stock to transition over for the first time from Carnernos over to here. The newly released 2022 beams freshness and comes packed with a delightful energy in its youth. It has a pale straw color with lime hues. The aromas are of honeysuckle, orange blossom and creme brulee with layers of vanilla and a hint of toffee. The palate is lively yet soft with flavors of lemon cream pie and merange.
