These Stagg Jr. releases have absolutely exploded in popularity over the past few years, behind incredibly quality, super high demand and not nearly enough supply. The newest release is Batch 16, bottled at 130.9 Proof and released in the Spring of 2021. It has great notes of Rye spice, freshly baked bread to pair with double chocolate chip cookies and some cherry and peach notes. As of me writing this, this is the very last of the Stagg Jr. releases and if it holds up, at least they can say they really went out with a bang. This is one of my top 2 or 3 favorites of the collection, and it’s still pretty early in this bottle’s life.

2019 WE CS #7
97 Points, James Suckling – 94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
Far Niente’s beloved Napa Valley Cabernet comes from a who’s who of the best vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley. It’s a seamless Cabernet blend sourced from Oakville, Stag’s Leap, Diamond Mountain, St. Helena, Calistoga, Oak Knoll and the winery’s estate fruit in Yountville. The 2021 vintage is a particular high note – it’s a must-have for Big Red, Napa and Cabernet lovers.

“Stunning stuff, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label offers a full-bodied, deep, majestic style as well as beautiful aromatics of creme de cassis, violets, flowers, and nicely integrated background oak. It has ultra-fine tannins, flawless balance, and a regal, age-worthy style that has so much to love. It, however, is not going to be for the instant gratification crowd and this actually shut down pretty quickly with air. I would hide bottle for 4-6 years and it’s going to cruise over the following two decades in cold cellars.”
There’s no better vintage to lock into a Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon than 2021. The winery, like the majority of their neighbors in the Napa Valley had a banner year for all varietals but Cab in particular. Cakebread’s 2021 t is every bit as good as I remember this wine being. It’s dark garnet to the rim, with a plethora of inviting aromas of black and blueberries, creme de cassis and Black Forest cake with some dried fruit and herbal notes. It’s a full-bodied beauty that should have 15-25 years of aging, but is already flashing so much in its youth.
Everybody in the whiskey world knows Baker’s. They have one heck of a reputation. They only make one two things their 7 year and the 13-year, and their 7-year single barrel straight Bourbon just means it is aged for at least 7 years. I was just allocated 18 bottles, and ours is special – it happens to be aged 8 years and 1 month! Bottled at the signature 107 Proof, this is a flat-out delicious bottle of bourbon from the distillery that makes no two barrels alike. This one hits with notes of Toffee, caramel, peanuts and black pepper. The mouthfeel is full and distinct with dried fruits joining the party and a smooth, lengthy finish.
