The vineyards that run along Bella Oaks Lane (the road that cuts through the heart of Rutherford) towards the old Bella Union mine, have been sought after for well over a hundred years. Since their founding in the 1880s, these vineyards have been the heart of some of the most phenomenal Napa Cabernets ever made.
They were the secret ingredient in Heitz’s Bella Oaks Cabernet. The vineyards from the old Steckter family property – now Staglin – were the secret sauce in the Beaulieu’s Georges de Latour Private Reserve – not to mention the phenomenal wines of Staglin.
The newly released Far Niente Bella Union Napa Valley Cab combines luscious estate Cabernet with a sprinkling of Bordeaux varieties from select vineyards nearby (Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot). The result is a luscious wine featuring aromas of dark cherry, anise, and spice – with big, lip-smacking dark fruit. Both fresh and primary, but with nice tannin that will allow for years of aging.

An array of bright red fruit with herbal undertones opens the way to a core of grippy concentration and powerful ripeness in this ageworthy wine. The tannins are structured and considerable.

It’s no surprise the Wine Advocate has called the Ventoux a “screaming bargain.” Carved off the left bank of the Rhone River, the 2020 Delas Ventoux is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine with wonderful crushed red fruits, a silky mouthfeel, tremendous structure and that signature Rhone spice on the finish. I haven’t had this wine available for a few vintages, but I figure it’s the perfect springtime Red to bring back in the fold!

“The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making…This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born.” -100 points, Vinous

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.

“The 2020 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is truly sensational. It begins with striking aromas of fresh blackberries, blueberries and dark plums that are laced with fresh spring florals, mocha, sweet exotic spices, graphite and gravel nuances all taking shape. The palate is full-bodied and displays a remarkable combination of power and elegance throughout. This is beautifully structured and extremely expressive, as it possesses outstanding depth and concentration all they way through the long, finessed finish. Year after year, the Columbia Valley Cabernet is one of the most impressive wines, and there is no exception here, as it combines all the wonderful qualities of the 2020 vintage from Quilceda Creek into one expression. This is fantastic already and readers will be in for a real treat, as this simply marvelous wine will continue to deliver the goods for years to come.”
