Owners, Bill and Dawnine Dyer bring the rich history and intense flavors of Diamond Mountain Cabernet to life. The boutique Napa Valley winery in the Diamond Mountain District combines their expertise and experience in one wine- Dyer Vineyard, Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon– a celebration of California’s storied wine-making history. Bill and Dawnine’s unique perspective and knowledge of wine derives from decades of winemaking, both in the prestigious Napa Valley and around the world.
Together they represent more than 80 years of experience in the wine industry. In 1996, they planted Dyer Vineyard and started Dyer Straits Wine Co with the goal of bringing focus on the exceptional terroir and extraordinary wines of Napa Valley’s “jewel” on Diamond Mountain.
Both the 2017 and 2018 Cabernets are up for grabs today. Individually, they’re both fantastic – though they couldn’t be more different at this stage. I’d argue the 2017 is drinking a little bit better at this point, though both have really bright futures ahead. Galloni raved, writing, “The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Bold, lush, and voluptuous in the glass, the 2017 Cabernet is an example of the vintage at its very best.” For the 2018 vintage, flush with a 96-point score of its own he wrote, “So many 2018s are succulent and open-knit, but the Dyer Cabernet is far from that. The aromatics alone are beguiling.
These are two special, small-lot artisanal Cabernet Sauvignons from one of the top dogs on Diamond Mountain. We have 36 btls of each vintage to go around… don’t wait too long!

96 Points, Vinous (2018 Cab)
“The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, pungent wine. So many 2018s are succulent and open-knit, but the Dyer Cabernet is far from that. The aromatics alone are beguiling. Lavender, sage, licorice, and inky blue/purplish fruit all come alive in the glass. Readers will find a beautifully complex, savory Cabernet full of character.”
94 Points, Vinous (2017 Cab)
“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Bold, lush, and voluptuous in the glass, the 2017 Cabernet is an example of the vintage at its very best. In 2017, Dyer’s Cabernet is a bitch richer and darker than it usually is, and yet the wine retains its mid-weight sense of structure. There is so much to look forward to.”

90-92 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 91 Pts (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 91 Pts, Decanter
The wines get consistent high praise but 2018 is truly something special. 90-92 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. 91 points and an Editor’s Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast. 91 more from Decanter who provides “There is so much to enjoy in the smaller appellations this year. Drinking Window 2022 – 2031” and another 90 point score from James Suckling. This is a home run value – especially for the price.
The 2021 Napa Valley East side Cuvee is an instant classic. From the first whiff to the moment it hits the lips, its clear that this is a fabulously concentrated, serious wine: black in color, and featuring aromas of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. The mouthfeel is plush and voluptuous with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging.
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck – 95 Points, Lisa Perotti-Brown
The oft 100-point winemaker, Jayson Woodbridge had this to say when tasting his 2021 ‘Stargazing’ Sonoma Pinot: “The wine is vibrant and complex with subtle dark fruits and berries, grandmother’s cherry pie, minerals, and a slight touch of rain-soaked earth, intertwined with a balance and very pleasing easy-going luxury. Should have been priced higher but what the hell.” I have no doubt this clerical error will be addressed in the vintages moving forward. But for now, this is a cult Pinot for under $100/bottle.
