Every drop of Código 1530’s offerings have been perfected over several generations the way one would a homemade recipe – embracing time-honored customs without ever veering from the traditions of the Los Bajos region and its tequilieras and jimadors.
The tequila begins with fully-matured agave aged over seven years, which is cooked in stainless steel ovens, fermented utilizing an organic family baker’s yeast in Amatitán, and distilled twice in stills handmade by the distilling family themselves. Our Blanco is perfected over a lengthy, 15-day process. The rested tequilas are meticulously aged to taste in French White Oak red wine barrels procured from one of Napa Valley’s most elite wineries, which helps to ensure that each and every barrel is worthy of bearing the Código 1530 name.

This tequila begins with the purity of a Blanco, which is rested for one month in French White Oak Napa Cabernet barrels. It rested just long enough for the wine barrels to enrich the natural agave flavor but maintain the elegant floral notes. Super smooth with hints of vanilla, citrus & strawberry. It’s the perfect poolside sipper.

This is my third private barrel of Bourbon that I sourced from Bulleit and my first since 2022. Believe you me, they give you a ton (and I mean a ton) of samples to go through to make up for lost time. The winning combo is something people are going to love. Allow me to introduce you to Barrel #5-B3-82. It’s smooth and layered, with a full creamy mouthfeel and manages to sneak in at 104 Proof. On the nose, I get fresh cut oak, vanilla and brown butter. On the palate, freshly baked banana bread, burnt orange and graham cracker.
Always like when we can bring a ‘first’ to the table and this Hungarian Red certainly fits the bill. It’s a delicate and complex volcanic wine that has a lot of rich notes of blackberries, chocolate and blue petaled flowers with a hint of pepper. This is an age-worthy beauty. Definitely worth a try as something that you’ll almost never be able to find again but will delight the true wine geek.
The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino from Aleramici hits all the right notes. It has a nice medium weight to it with easy drinking cherry, creme de cassis and purple fruits. It’s multi-dimensional with waves of some dark plum and blackberry with more sage and spice components as well that compliment it perfectly.
The juice here is so pure and elegant, it tastes much more like a $80/bottle of Tequila than one going for half the price, but that’s why I love these single barrel deals so much. The value is insane. This Reposado spent just under 12 months in used bourbon barrels. Golden brown with fresh agave, oak & vanilla. Remarkably smooth finish. This is one of those oddball tequila’s that is good enough to just sip on the rocks but cheap enough to use to make one hell of a margarita.
