When all the dust settled, it almost also seemed like a dream. On the heels of an epic 2009 vintage, the 2010 vintage in Bordeaux was otherworldly, good enough for 99-points from Wine Enthusiast, 98-points from Wine Spectator and most people confidently throwing around phrasing such as the ‘Best Ever Vintage in Bordeaux.”
In particular, the Left Bank really shined. Treated to hot, dry conditions, the Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2010 vintage was a dream. Decanter called it, “A truly great vintage, optimally ripe but with firm acidity and tannins.” 2009 showed off elegance and suppleness, but the 2010s were all about power.
Knowing all of this early, the public went nuts – especially those who lost out on precious 2009s and vowed not to make the same mistake twice. All of the best Chateau saw their bottles disappear in records time, and we barely saw 2009s or 2010s a few years after their original release.
But when a sample came on my desk last week with a note that said 2010 Bordeaux, I just assumed it was a joke – one of the suppliers trying to suggest an obscure Chilean Carmenere blend to me but in a humorous way to get my attention. But after reading the label and then popping open the wine, it was unmistakably and unapologetically a 2010… and it was excellent.

90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Powerful, concentrated wine, a very solid Cabernet-dominated wine. It has dark tannins, the black currant fruit still hiding in the background. Dark and dense, it’s destined for good aging, at least over the next six years.
90 Points, James Suckling
Pretty nose with red cherries, blackberries and tobacco. Chalky mineral notes and new fresh wood. Full and vibrant on the palate with pure fruit and fine tannins. Good length

95 Points, James Suckling – 94 Points, Wine Spectator – 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
90-92 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 91 Pts (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 91 Pts, Decanter
The wines get consistent high praise but 2018 is truly something special. 90-92 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. 91 points and an Editor’s Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast. 91 more from Decanter who provides “There is so much to enjoy in the smaller appellations this year. Drinking Window 2022 – 2031” and another 90 point score from James Suckling. This is a home run value – especially for the price.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
