The Germans use words like Trocken (dry) or Süss (sweet) in their wine names to tip off consumers. Today’s wine is no exception. This is the Single Post Kabinett Riesling. Kabinett means it’s a wine of German origin that is of Reserve or Superior quality and made in a lighter style. It’s perfect for a refreshing style of Riesling made to be drunk young.
Today’s Riesling is an exceptional Kabinett Riesling, made by one of Germany’s renowned winemakers, Nik Weiss (St. Urbans Hof). Nik’s Kabinett Rieslings manage to stay light and fresh yet still comes through with juicy, clean fruit with a wonderful acidic backbone that can stand up to food.
This one really impressed me and that was before I even knew the price. With the added information, this quickly becomes one of the best value white wines we’ll be able to offer up all year. It first hits you with a ton of fruit suggesting that it’s sweet – but that’s met with a ton of white grapefruit acidity and minerality that actually makes you realize it’s a dry Riesling – just with some flair.
Wine Enthusiast has designated this one a ‘Best Buy’ as they usually do and gave it a 90-point review where they deemed this, “thirst quenching, juicy and reverberating”. I’m not going to argue with any of that. That’s right on the money.

90 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast
“Penetrating tangerine and lemon flavors are etched with hints of caramel and saffron in this thirst quenching, delicately sweet Riesling. Light bodied and lean, yet juicy and reverberating, it’s a fresh-fruited, value white to accompany soft cheeses and white meats.”

Year in, year out Château Turcaud produces one of the best white wine values in the world. It’s long been found on Michelin-starred wine lists in Paris and we’ve had it at the restaurant since Day 1. If you’ve ever tried this stunning, classic Bordeaux of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle, then you know why. The new 2022 vintage has arrived and it’s beaming with energy and pure stone fruits. This is a beauty as always.
Stephan Steinmetz is a star in the Mosel wine region. His old vines are rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone, the exact same vein of rock that winds its way from Sancerre through Chablis and Champagne to its final out-cropping here in the Obermosel. His Elbling is glorious — both completely unlike anything I’ve ever had and also eerily familiar. The color is almost clear, some might call it silver. A stunning nose of green apples and lemon peel gives way to fresh pear and bright citrus fruits on the palate. It’s a stunningly focused wine with a healthy dose of minerality and acid zip, not unlike great Sancerre/Chablis and bone dry.
95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
“The 2018 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard marks the beginning of winemaker Joe Nielsen’s tenure at the winery. Pouring a medium yellow with a light golden hue, it’s most reserved of the flight aromatically at the moment, with yellow chamomile flowers, ripe peach, beeswax, and white flowers. Full-bodied, it retains excellent tension and focus on the palate, with apricot, orange zest, and a savory finish with a bit of spice. I suspect this will come around and open with time. Drink 2024-2030.” -Jeb Dunnuck
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
