Ever since the winery’s start in 1990, the goal at Quintessa was always to have the most beautiful wine estate in the world, with the best winemaking team making the best wines. That much is clear. The winery is always at the top of the Napa Visit list– a picturesque 270-acre plot in Rutherford right in the heart of Napa Valley with a massive, state of the art tasting room and 17,000 square foot wine caves on the premises.
On the winemaking side, the team includes superstar consultant Michel Rolland, joining Andy Erickson (Screaming Eagle/Leviathan) and superstar young winemaker, Rebekah Wineburg who joined the team in 2015 after stints at Staglin and Rudd. Ever since Rebekah joined the team in 2015, the winery has reached an even greater level of craftsmanship, and her first vintage, the 2016 speaks volumes into the new direction of the famous winery.
Showered with high scores from both James Suckling and Parker’s Wine Advocate, this one is more than deserving of the lavish praise. It’s a delicate, intricately woven blend with incredible precision. Parker’s Advocate called it, “Full, rich and beautifully laced with layers of floral notes and fragrant earth”. With so much to offer on the attack with aromas of blackberry, cocoa, cassis and red currant with hints of sage and earth. It’s the type of excellence that you’ve come to expect from one of America’s top wineries, but this kicks it up even another notch above that this year.

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.

This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.

“The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making…This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born.” -100 points, Vinous

“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
