My whiskey four-pack consists of 4 very different bottles, two being Single Barrels that I picked out myself from my trip to Kentucky in January along with the New Jersey premiere of Elijah Craig Rye and a rare one in the form of Redemption’s Wheated Bourbon. All in all you get four outstanding and unique offerings, one of which is not even in the store and up to this point has been a Bourbon Buyers Club exclusive.
Each four pack includes:
1 btl. Bulleit Nicholas Single Barrel Reserve #2 Bourbon Whiskey
After a few years waiting for my own barrel, I finally got the chance to pick out two in January. This is my second. This one is from Mashbill E. It has super inviting notes of fresh baked, spiced bread & caramel. This is a 7 year old single-barrel beauty & was bottled at 104 Proof. Add in some tasty oaky vanilla overtones and creme brulee, brown butter and you’re cooking with dynamite.
1 btl. Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey
Best of Class (Platinum) Sip Awards – #7 Top Whisky, Whisky Advocate 2020
A 94-Point, 94-Proof release. In the glass, Elijah Craig Rye reveals the imbuing spice of rye grains, perfectly balanced with corn for distinct smoothness and character. Notes of dark chocolate with spices and a hint of smoke and a splash of sweet, toasted oak on the lingering finish.
1 btl. Redemption Wheated Bourbon Whiskey
“Best Small Batch Bourbon Up to 5 Years” Winner – San Francisco World Spirits Competition
The high wheat content in the mash bill is very rare and makes the whiskey super smooth even at a fairly high 96 Proof (48% alc.). This baby was aged for four years, with a mashbill of 51% corn, 45% wheat and 4% malted barley. The blend is so damn good. It oozes with notes of freshly baked bread and a malty sweetness. That’s followed by notes of candied ginger, sage and lavender with aromas of oak and vanilla creeping through. On the palate, a silky blend that sneaks up on you with intense flavors of coffee, hazelnuts, baking spices and black pepper.
1 btl. Yellowstone Nicholas Single Barrel Selection Bourbon Whiskey
Believe it or not, I actually think this barrel was my favorite pick of my entire Kentucky trip in January. I tasted a ton of Single Barrels at different proofs with the legend Stephen Fante. We both agreed that without a doubt the best one was the 109 Proof beauty that I picked out. My notes on my pick & they are a little “fuzzy” but I got a rush of sweet vanilla that paired with caramelized banana and graham cracker. It had an incredible depth of flavors with a super long velvety finish. So dang good.

Our third single barrel of Whistle Pig and the first time we have our hands on their 6-year PiggyBack bottling. This one leads with a nose of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, butterscotch and toffee. On the palate, I get a lot of citrus & peach with a touch of lavender & black cherry. The finish here is strong & long with spicy dried fruits and caramel notes that linger. This one was distilled in house in Vermont, and as anyone can tell you with the farm releases, they always deliver the best of punches. This one comes in at 109.8 Proof.
Rich and creamy notes of toasted oak, vanilla, caramel, and fresh baked Bundt cake immediately flood the sense’s as soon as you pop this one open. Bottled at 100-Proof, you get a little bit of heat on the front palate followed by rich oak, leather and freshly baked bread. As it starts to open, you get some sweeter, creamy vanilla notes that cream in as well as campfire s’mores and a dash of pepper. The finish is long, and a bit spicy which leaves a memorable aftertaste and leaves you wanting more.
Bulleit isn’t usually one to come out with too many new or limited releases, but the ‘Frontier’ Limited Release bucks that trend. This American Single Malt was made with 100% malted barley, aged in new American spiced oak casks, and bottled at 43% alcohol. It hits with notes of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, candied orange, dried fruits, and maple syrup. She’s a beauty – just wish I had more to sell!
