In October’s wine column, Eric Asimov of the New York Times stumbled upon one of our well kept secrets – definitely letting the cat out of the bag – when he added today’s wine into his 20 under $20 column. Throw in the gold medal and a 95-point score in Decanter’s Wine Awards.. and this bottle is not easy to get your hands on!
If you don’t remember the story, just as Bordeaux was riding a hot streak of vintages in the late 80s, Herve Fabre had other plans and set off for Argentina. Unlike the bevy of projects that started vineyards from scratch to cash in on the increasing popularity of large production malbec, Herve starting snatching up small ancient parcels in his attempt to create wines that compete with the top wines of Bordeaux.
Although, Fabre Montmayou has been named Argentinian Producer of the year by the IWC several times at this point – their most recent releases have set a new bar for the region.
Don’t let the price tag fool you. The 2019 Fabre-Montmayou Cabernet Franc is a gorgeous & serious wine that should be enjoyed like a Saturday nighter. Dark color and full throttle as you might expect out of the gate, giving way to pure fruit and a touch of that Cheval Blanc type jalapeno that so intrigues lovers of world class Cab Franc.

95 Points, Decanter Magazine
Ripe nose with fresh red fruits and lively notes of green vegetables and capsicum. Quite solid palate with pleasant fruit and juiciness, peppery and spicy.

“The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making…This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born.” -100 points, Vinous
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
#3 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2021
96 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 95 Points, Wine Spectator
We are one of the very few folks who have Wine Spectator’s #3 Wine of the Year. This is definitely not one to miss. The 2016 vintage showcases this prized vineyard in all its glory; notes of wild black fruit, thyme, mint, eucalyptus, and bay are lifted and enjoyed with the polished tannin and mouthwatering freshness of this wine. Regarded as one of the best vintages in the last few decades, the 2016 Martha’s Vineyard has been aged to perfection for immediate enjoyment at release and will continue to reward for the next 20+ years.
