Virginia’s most award winning distillery and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. In 2017, their Small Batch Bourbon was named “World’s Best Bourbon” at the World Whiskies Awards. This is the first year I’ve ever been offered more than six bottles of this Bourbon– that is not an exaggeration.
IMHO the best value in Sazerac’s portfolio is Bowman Brothers. Not familiar with Sazerac? They own/make a few bourbons that you may have heard of: Pappy Vanwinkle, George T. Stagg, Buffalo Trace etc. Bowman Brothers was a little secret for those in the “know”. Well that little secret blew up in 2017 when the distillery won “Worlds Best Bourbon” at the World Whiskey Awards.
Smith Bowman Distillery was purchased by the Sazerac Company, Inc. in 2003. Currently the company doesn’t produce their own whiskey distillate and doesn’t disclose who they source it from. It is believed the new whiskey originates from Buffalo Trace and is their #1 mashbill.
This is a dynamite bottle of Whiskey, more than deserving of its gold medal at the 2021 North American Bourbon and Whiskey Competition and the honor of being Whisky Magazine’s 2020 Best Non-Kentucky Single Barrel Bourbon.
This one hits with notes of toffee, leather, chocolate, candied almonds and some hints of charred wood. On the mouth, you get some caramel, malted chocolate, oak and a hint of vanilla. The finish is long and strong – warm and spicy with a splash of caramel sprinkled in. At 100 Proof (50% alc.), and with more than 9 years of age, this is a sleeping giant that will no doubt sneak up on you.

This is definitely one of the most unique private barrels of bourbon you’re gonna find anywhere and it comes from our friends at in Kirby at Wyoming Whiskey. It’s been two years since we’ve had this baby! They make their own whiskey in-house instead of getting it shipped to them and finishing it. In doing so, they use winter wheat to churn out a medium length whiskey with notes of honey, burnt sugar, cinnamon and caramel on the finish. It’s sensational – but I only have 120 bottles from this barrel to offer up.
Back in the day, Widow Jane used to be a staple at Nicholas Wines. But as its popular has gone crazy, it’s been tougher and tougher to get my hands on any. This is a hyper small batch bourbon that was aged for a minimum of thirteen years, non-chill filtered and proofed with Widow Jane’s signature limestone mineral water from the Rosendale Mines in New York. It’s a doozy of a bottle at 93 Proof and has notes of vanilla, nutmeg, graham cracker and sweet tobacco.
This is my third private barrel of Bourbon that I sourced from Bulleit and my first since 2022. Believe you me, they give you a ton (and I mean a ton) of samples to go through to make up for lost time. The winning combo is something people are going to love. Allow me to introduce you to Barrel #5-B3-82. It’s smooth and layered, with a full creamy mouthfeel and manages to sneak in at 104 Proof. On the nose, I get fresh cut oak, vanilla and brown butter. On the palate, freshly baked banana bread, burnt orange and graham cracker.
Today I snagged a really special single barrel that I have been working on for nearly two years now with Old Forester. It’s a 128.2 proof dynamo that will blow you away, and you’ll love every single sip. The nose is of fresh leather, baking spices & cocoa. On the pallet, this one is a monster & hits you with baked apple. brown sugar, vanilla & cinnamon. The finish goes on for two days long with notes of fig, cherries & clove. It’s big, but she’s a beauty.
