When talking about the origins of winemaking in America, Mayacamas is one winery that will always be deeply entrenched in the history books. This iconic, landmark winery isn’t just a success story of the past though, their present and future are brighter than it’s ever been.
This 2014 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon was VinePair’s #1 wine of the year in 2018, and every other critic who drank this person agreed. 97 points from James Suckling. 96+ from Antonio Galloni of Vinous who wrote, the “2014 is laser-focused and exceptionally beautiful.”
Finally, 96 Points from Jeb Dunnuck who added, “An incredible wine that reminds me of a great vintage of Lafite”. It’s safe to say this is one special bottle of wine.

Aromas of blackcurrant, mushroom, wet earth and bark follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a stone, berry, chili and spice aftertaste. Muscular and chunky. Very serious. Almost no new oak. This shows the Mayacamas DNA.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon shows the best qualities of the year to great effect. Powerful, incisive and tannic, yet also medium-bodied in structure, the 2014 is laser-focused and exceptionally beautiful. Precision and finely sculpted, the 2014 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own, but it is incredibly vivid and poised, even at this early stage. Red fruit, wild flowers, orange peel and chalk add brightness throughout.
96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
An incredible wine that reminds me of a great vintage of Lafite, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a step up over the 2012, with more depth, richness, and elegance as well as texture. Stunning notes of red and blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, cigar tobacco, and cedar all emerge from this incredibly elegant, ethereal, yet layered 2014 that has present yet polished tannin, impeccable balance, and sensational purity of fruit. It certainly offers pleasure today (more than the 2012) yet will benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age and keep for 2-3 decades. It’s a brilliant, classic, old-school styled Napa Cabernet done perfectly!

“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Gala Vineyard is fabulous. It emerges from a terraced vineyard at 1,800 feet in elevation in Napa Valley, just above the Coombsville AVA. Rich, dark and beautifully structured, the 2021 possesses notable pedigree and character. Black cherry, plum, gravel, licorice, bay leaf and espresso all race across the palate. Readers who enjoy old-school Napa Cabernets will adore this. This wine, if sold in Napa Valley, would cost four to five times as much.” -Antonio Galloni
95 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a gorgeous, cellar worthy Napa Valley Cabernet that is amongst the highest rated of the 2017 vintage. It scored a 95 from Wine Enthusiast who called it “classic styled Napa Cabernet” that is “big but balanced” with “elegance and age-worthiness.” Hard to argue with any of that. It’s dark and crunchy, with a super graceful texture and the fruit is deep, dark and austere.
From two New Jersey natives comes something special from Napa Valley. First the Faustini’s bought grapes from the historic Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard for their first test batch. Next they brought in Opus One & Clos du Val alum Kian Tavakoli to head up the winemaking. Throw in an outrageously good 2015 vintage in Napa and what you have is the recipe for a knockout wine that is starting to come into its own and will be great for the next 10-20 years!
95 Points, James Suckling – 94 Points, Wine Spectator – 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
