Helene Garcin-Leveque has been on an absolute tear, building one of the most impressive portfolio of holdings in all of Bordeaux. Clos L’Eglise in Pomerol and Château Barde Haut in the St. Emilion Region. Château Haut-Bergey & Château Branon in Pessac Leognan.
But her most recent acquisition – Chateau Poesia in Saint-Emilion – is the one that has the entire wine world buzzing. The revolution she’s spearheaded has been nothing short of amazing. And I’m sure as this estate reaching its critical apex with the 2016 vintage – that future vintage pricing is set to double or maybe even triple.
Here’s a sampling of the press coverage that is bound to drive pricing up like a hockey stick. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW and the team at Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called it one of their top ten discoveries of the year before she gave it her vote for her #1 for her favorite underground wine of the year. Jeb Dunnuck gave it 96 points and then named it his #7 Wine of the Year! Other reviewers piled on.
The 2016 Chateau Poesia Saint-Emilion Grand Cru is absolutely gorgeous and reminds us all of why we feel in love with Bordeaux to begin with – especially at the price. I’ll get to that. A bright red-fruit nose hides sneaky hints of complex herbs and dried flowers. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a minerality usually reserved for wines three times the price.

96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Château Poesia is more open and showy compared to the Barde Haut, offering fabulous limestone-like character in its kirsch and currant fruits and notes of dried herbs, white truffle, and dried flowers. Possessing medium to full body, ripe, present tannins, terrific concentration, and a great finish, it’s another incredibly classy Saint Emilion from the Garcin-Lévêque family.
94 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2016 Poesia is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple, the nose delivers vibrant Black Forest cake, redcurrants and Morello cherries notes with touches of cinnamon stick, rose hip tea, pencil shavings, tobacco and milk chocolate. The medium-bodied palate charges out of the gate with bright red berries layers and loads of herbal sparks, framed by rock-solid, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing very long. It should offer very good aging potential.
94 Points, James Suckling
Subtle aromas of mint, bay leaf and dark berries follow through to a full body with chewy and polished tannins and a tight, structured finish. Extremely long and firm. Give this at least another four or five years to soften and come together.

Winemaker Pascal Sirat consistently puts out some of the best value Bordeaux in the region but he may have outdone himself in what was a stellar 2019 vintage throughout the region. Just south of Pomerol, the vines at Panchille borrow deep in the soil. The resulting wines are ripe but fresh, with an aromatic complexity and stony finish usually reserved for wine twice the price. Daniel Boulud tells me it’s been the hottest bottle of wine at Bar Boulud for over a month, so I figured I’d better hurry up and secure my allocation! Don’t miss it.
90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Xavier Vignon’s brand spanking new CDR 100% is a thing of beauty. It’s already got a blessing from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who described this wine as, “Full-bodied, concentrated and supple”. This is a gorgeous and intricate blend that features all of the Southern Rhone appellations. This year, the blend was 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Cinsault, 7% Marselan, 6% Terret Noir. Nobody can do it like the mad scientist, Xavier Vignon.

“The 2021 Malbec Reserva, from Vistalba, Lujan de Cuyo, was 60% aged in barrels for 12 months. Purple in color. The nose presents notes of fresh plum and violets, white pepper, strawberry, hints of spice and aromas from the aging process. It’s initially indulgent in the mouth, with good fat, and volume and a velvety texture. The flavors are bold and full-bodied. This 2021 overdelivers at the price.” -Vinous
