Chateau Leoville Barton is a classic estate on the left bank of Bordeaux in the sub-region of St. Julien. 72% of the wine planted at the vineyard is Cabernet, the backbone behind their powerful, age-worthy Bordeaux blends that are consistently excellent. In tasting the 2010, Robert Parker, Jr. called it, “one of the spectacular wines of the vintage” before taking it a step further with, “The beautiful purity, symmetry, and huge finish of nearly a minute make this one of the all-time great classics from Leoville Barton.”
The 2010 vintage in Bordeaux was one of the best by far of the last three decades. Excellence can be found across the board, but usually it will run you in the thousands. The 2019 vintage of Château Puyanche is their best and highest rated to date. It boasts a harmonious blend of Cab Franc, Merlot, and Cab, showcasing a symphony of flavors that dance on the palate. Expect to be greeted by notes of ripe black fruits, subtle spices, and a hint of oak, all wrapped up in a silky-smooth texture that lingers long after each sip. This is one that is great now, but somehow, even at this price-point offers years more of excellent drinking.

It would be ‘The Bard’, which will be available beginning in 2024. It is a very giving wine that promises great rewards for long-term cellaring and is enjoyable three full nights in a row, never losing its zeal if having one great glass each night is your prerogative. Power and muscle frame the core of this towering red, with its red-toned fruits and rich, toasty oak spice nuance by bay Laurel and pastis. Full-bodied with tremendous decadence of chocolaty tannins that are pliant and billowy, lifted by supple blackberry and black raspberry fruit, a drizzle of cherry coulis, and resolving with refined tobacco, cedar wood spice, and laced with coriander and cumin aromatics.
