Knock-out wines at every price point, huge Parker scores and really sharp pricing easily makes Xavier Vignon one of Nicholas Wines most requested and commented upon producer. He continues to add to his portfolio of wines, each time pulling another rabbit from his hat that wows both critics and consumers alike.
His latest release, a dry, Provençal-styled rosé comes from 80-100 year old vines rooted in clay and gravel soils in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Lirac. It’s a killer bottle of rosé, loaded with raspberry and wild strawberry aromas and flavors, touched with subtle, savory spice. It’s fresh, vibrant wine, perfect with the cuisine of summer. It’s a wine for Tuesday night made by one of the masters of the Saturday nighter. But it always runs out too quickly so jump on it right now!
Out of stock
This is a killer bottle of wine! Everything Xavier makes flies out the door at Nicholas and for good reason. He’s consistently one of the best winemakers in CdP.
Though it’s fruity, this wine is bone-dry making it an ideal wine to pair with food. Might we suggest a watermelon salad with cucumbers and feta cheese?!?
Winemaker Patrick Brunet’s tiny Domaine Robert estate consists of 50-60 year old vines, deeply rooted in the granitic soils of Fleurie. His new release of his Cote du Py Morgon is going to win over some fans in a big way. Patrick produced a concentrated, structured Beaujolais that’s got a lot of lift and fresh acidity to pair with blue and blackberry notes. It’s a total steal for the price.
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
In the 2020 vintage, Guigal made a particularly expressive Rose – a racy little dry number with notes of raspberry, citrus and macerated cherries with good balance and an abundance of freshness. It’s a 70% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 10% Syrah blend that’s pretty typical for the Rhone, and like most wines made at Guigal it has a 90+ review to accompany the release. Wine Enthusiast gave this one a 90 and called it, “a full-bodied but refreshing dry wine.” Considering what you’re getting – the price couldn’t be any better.
This one is always special, but might not be any better than the 2021 release. This Effet Papillon Rose is off the charts. Made 100% from Grenache (as many of the best Southern French Roses are, this is salmon in color. It boasts aromas of bright red and stone fruits, orange rinds and a hint of lemon zest. It’s incredibly smooth and dry, making it a great food wine– but this Rose is serious with depth and complexity, making it worthy of enjoying on its own.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
