Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been making wine in Ribeauvillé, Alsace. There is probably no single family that has done more for white wine than the Trimbachs, who in their 13 generations of rich winemaking tradition have literally accomplished every significant achievement one could possibly achieve in wine. Led by the legendary Jean Trimbach, there simply isn’t a winery that carries a candle to the Trimbachs around the Michelin Star world. That is how good their full lineup is year in, year out.
During my time at Jean-George, Trimbach’s wines were on every tasting menu. One of my favorite wine traveling memories was spending a day with Jean Trimbach and his wife in Ribeauvillé Alsace. I could not believe their library collection of wines and it seemed like no matter what year they pulled out, each was more spectacular than the next.
This baby is a blend that comes from two Grand Cru vineyards in the Trimbach’s hometime of Ribeauvillé in Geisberg and Osterberg One is planted in limestone and sandstone, the other in muschelkalk with the vines together averaging between 45 and 50 years of age.

94 Points, James Suckling
For a seven-year-old dry white, this has great vitality. The more air it gets, the more candied-citrus, pear and dried-herb aromas emerge. Although the wine’s frame is on the sleek side, there’s serious concentration. The finish is very long with a cascade of herbal and mineral notes. Drink or hold.
93 Points, Wine & Spirits
This is a blend from the Trimbach family’s holdings in Geisberg and Osterberg, two grand crus in their hometown of Ribeauvillé. One is planted in limestone and sandstone, the other in muschelkalk, the vines averaging 45 years of age. While 2011 is not the most structured or long-lived vintage, this wine shows no signs of letting up. There’s gentle sweetness to the caramelized apple and fresh pear flavors, lasting with delicacy, purity and clarity.
92+ Points, Vinous
Pale straw-green. Minty green apple, jasmine and minerals on the enticing nose. Bright flavors of green apple and ripe citrus fruits are joined by stone fruits and minerals on the long finish. Has enough acidity to maintain clarity and cut. According to Pierre Trimbach, this is on a par with other great recent vintages for this bottling.

“The 2018 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard marks the beginning of winemaker Joe Nielsen’s tenure at the winery. Pouring a medium yellow with a light golden hue, it’s most reserved of the flight aromatically at the moment, with yellow chamomile flowers, ripe peach, beeswax, and white flowers. Full-bodied, it retains excellent tension and focus on the palate, with apricot, orange zest, and a savory finish with a bit of spice. I suspect this will come around and open with time. Drink 2024-2030.” -Jeb Dunnuck
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.

If you’ve never heard of Bisci, let’s start here. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called Giuseppe Bisci’s Verdicchio “one of the finest I’ve ever tasted,” and noted that “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” A staple at $85/bottle for both French Laundry and Eleven Madison Park. “Verdicchio is one of the joys of Italian oenology that rarely gets the respect it deserves, and few producers do it better than Bisci.” – The Wine Advocate
Every year, Pierre Sparr’s Alsacian Riesling is one of the top scoring wines in the under $20 category. There’s a consistency there and consumers know they can count on a Riesling that is aromatic, fruity, elegant, clean and vibrant. Pierre Sparr wines are extremely food-friendly especially in the widely praised 2021 vintage where quality rose to an all-time high. It’s a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.
