Today’s wine comes from one of Sicily’s all-time great wineries, and the special volcanic soils of Mt. Etna. The Tornatore family have been in Sicily since the 1680s and have been making wine there since 1865.
They are titans in the region and considered one of the most consistently excellent producers. Their wines are known for capturing the essence of Etna, the complexity, the freshness and the vibrant expressions that come from this ashy, volcanic and super mineral-rich soil.
The Tornatores make two great Etna Rossos each year, their base Etna and the ‘Pietrarizzo’ their single-vineyard expression that comes from a super high altitude plot where there is more rainfall, moderating breezes and cooler temperatures at night. These unique conditions when combined with ample Sicilian sun, and mineral rich soil, make for an incredibly concentrated, complex and expressive Red – which is why it’s always one of the highest rated Rossos in Etna each year.

Spice and dried seaweed with ash and earth on the nose, as well as red fruit. Full-bodied with medium, round tannins and a savory finish. Dusty at the end. Delicious now, but will age nicely.

A graceful, medium-bodied red, with bright acidity and fine, creamy tannins, which buoy a pleasing range of baked strawberry, star anise, graphite and red licorice notes. A subtle overtone of herbs and mineral pushes through and lingers on the lightly chewy finish. Drink now through 2032.

“The 2020 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is truly sensational. The palate is full-bodied and displays a remarkable combination of power and elegance throughout. This is beautifully structured and extremely expressive, as it possesses outstanding depth and concentration all they way through the long, finessed finish. Year after year, the Columbia Valley Cabernet is one of the most impressive wines, and there is no exception here, as it combines all the wonderful qualities of the 2020 vintage from Quilceda Creek into one expression. It’s no surprise the Wine Advocate has called the Ventoux a “screaming bargain.” Carved off the left bank of the Rhone River, the 2020 Delas Ventoux is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine with wonderful crushed red fruits, a silky mouthfeel, tremendous structure and that signature Rhone spice on the finish. I haven’t had this wine available for a few vintages, but I figure it’s the perfect springtime Red to bring back in the fold!
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
