Matt has always had an ace up his sleeve – 125-year-old vineyards planted on the rolling Delhi sand just across the bay by his grandfather and a few other family friends. The bush-trained vines struggle each year to produce the tiniest amount of fruit producing wines of immense character unlike anything you’ve ever tasted anywhere in the U.S.
When we offered this back in April, it was quickly gobbled up by Zinfandel lovers. But that was before the critics spoke. This summer, both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast wrote glowing 91-pt score (the latter gave it an Editors’ Choice designation) reviews about the wine. We got a little worried. Would the wine still be around in the fall? Yes, yes it would. As long as we didn’t wait until November!
This is a must buy for any fans of big, dense, complex wines and the one Zinfandel blend that gets Napa Cab fans raving.

91 Pts, Wine Spectator
Refined and well-built, with vibrant wild berry, smoky sage and pepper flavors that take on speed toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2025.
91 Pts, (Editors’ Choice) Wine Enthusiast
This wine is a good all-around performer that starts with effusive berry and spice aromas, followed by mouth filling raspberry and blackberry flavors. Interesting nuances of dried herbs and light oak tones arise on the full-bodied palate.
This is a must buy for any fans of big, dense, complex wines and seemingly the one Zinfandel blend that gets Napa Cab fans raving.

Incredibly food friendly especially with grilled veggies, burgers or meats.
93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
92 Points, James Suckling
Since the late 1990’s Penner-Ash has been viewed as one of Oregon’s top wineries making gorgeous wines in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In the 2021 vintage considered to be one of Oregon’s all-time great years, the 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that Lynn crafted is gorgeous, a silky tightly woven number that mixes red and black fruits with some sage and baking spices and a savory finish. It’s got some nice weight to it and structure which suggests it’ll age well for the next 10-15 years though it’s already drinking beautifully in its youth.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
90-92 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 91 Pts (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 91 Pts, Decanter
The wines get consistent high praise but 2018 is truly something special. 90-92 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. 91 points and an Editor’s Choice designation from Wine Enthusiast. 91 more from Decanter who provides “There is so much to enjoy in the smaller appellations this year. Drinking Window 2022 – 2031” and another 90 point score from James Suckling. This is a home run value – especially for the price.
