Nicholas worked hard this year with the Man In Red to put together an incredible assortment of wines with holiday meals and entertaining in mind. Together, the two wanted to make sure that this year you saw wines you’ve never seen before that you can get only in the folly, jolly Ho Ho Ho 2022 Case. Three juicy Reds that can light up a room and a special Sparkler from Germany that will surely steal some Champagne fans away!
The Ho Ho Ho 2022 Case includes 3 each of the following four wines:
Poggio Al Sole Trittico 2020
Poggio al Sole is the hidden gem of Tuscany. If you want to hit a home run with your next pizza night, I mean, really go all the way, you have to serve the latest release of Poggio al Sole’s fabulous Super-Tuscan, Trittico. The 2020 vintage is in so far this wine is showing beautifully. It definitely bodes well for what is to come as it’s already pretty expressive and energetic. This is a great Sangiovese and Cabernet blend for the holiday season, that pairs really well with most things.
Chad Merlot Incline 18 Sonoma Mountain 2019
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
Domaine de Robert Fleurie Cuvee Tradition 2020
Winemaker Patrick Brunet’s tiny Domaine Robert estate consists of 50-60 year old vines, deeply rooted in the granitic soils of Fleurie. What I love about him is that every vintage brings something new but it consistently stays excellent. In the newly released 2020 vintage, Patrick produced a concentrated, structured Beaujolais that’s roaring out of the gates but with the bones to improve in the bottle over the next decade. This is a fantastic bottle to have around.
Steinmetz Cremant Brut Liaison NV
Stephen biodynamically farms this tiny estate in the Obermosel, east of Frankfurt, very close to the border with Luxembourg. His old vines of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir are rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone, the same vein of rock found in Sancerre, Chablis and Champagne. His Liaison , is a sparkling wine made in the methode of Champagne, is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The wine is a terrific nose, with aromas of green apple, berries and brioche. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, juicy with flavors of pear and apple, with a creamy mousse and tiny bubbles, finishing long, savory and stony. It’s the perfect aperitif or as accompaniment to smoked salmon or any simple white fish.

90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Double Canyon continues to prove themselves amongst the best producers in Washington State with each new vintage produced. For four consecutive vintages, they’ve seen their Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet highly scored, and I know for sure the 2019 will continue the trend (already a 90-point score from WE). This checks all the boxes of a great Double Canyon Cab. It’s got pristine red and black fruits. On the attack, the wine offers intricately woven youthful tannins that give the wine a delicious and slightly chewy taste. It’s a crowd pleaser – one of Nicholas Wines’ all-time customer favorites.
Once again dialing up fruit from 1000-1500ft in elevation in the Dundee Hills, Chad’s 2021 is juicy, laser focused and roaring out of the gates. Chad tells me that similar wines (very similar wines) off this vineyard are raising their prices up to $55/bottle from $45 this year due to 2020’s lost year. But where most people are raising prices to recoup last year’s losses, the CHAD Pinot Noir price is somehow lower. A true gift from our favorite winemaker.
93 Points, James Suckling – 93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
“The appellation Flowers Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast was just about completely destemmed (2% stems) and spent 10 months in 18% new French oak. Lots of spice box, earthy forest floor, cherries, and redcurrant notes define the bouquet, and it’s medium-bodied and balanced, with good acidity and a great finish. As with everything from this estate, it’s impeccably made and high-quality.” – Jeb Dunnuck
This one is always special, but might not be any better than the 2021 release. This Effet Papillon Rose is off the charts. Made 100% from Grenache (as many of the best Southern French Roses are, this is salmon in color. It boasts aromas of bright red and stone fruits, orange rinds and a hint of lemon zest. It’s incredibly smooth and dry, making it a great food wine– but this Rose is serious with depth and complexity, making it worthy of enjoying on its own.
