Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico Riserva 2021

94 Points, Wine Spectator  – 93 Points, James Suckling

This is exactly the kind of wine that takes steak night from a 10 to an 11. You have this super bright acidity and firm, chewy tannins that can perfectly cut through and balance the meat’s rich, savory fat – a match made in heaven.

Wine Spectator gave it a whopping 94 points and called it “Rich, deep and saturated… driven by vivid acidity, with dense tannins lending support.” James Suckling was equally smitten, labeling it as a “well-balanced, velvety and harmonious Riserva.”

94 Points, Wine Spectator
“Rich, deep and saturated with cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, rose, iron and Mediterranean herb flavors, this red is both complex and intense. Driven by vivid acidity, with dense tannins lending support. There’s youthful harmony, and this resonates on the aftertaste.”

93 Points, James Suckling
“A well-balanced, velvety and harmonious riserva. Aromas of plums, spiced cherries and violets dominate on the nose, following through to a medium body with fine tannins. Subtle and juicy, with a vivid stream of berries at the center and a flavorful, lively finish. Drink or hold.”

The Arceno estate is built atop one of Tuscany’s most ancient landscapes. It’s 1500-1700 feet above sea level just above the Chianti subregion of Castelnuovo Berardenga, and is the perfect place to make age-worthy reds.

Under legendary winemaker Pierre Seillan, they changed the game by dividing the vineyards into 63 distinct “micro-crus” across complex soils of sandstone, basalt, and clay. An estate that was built for making earth-shattering, age-worthy cuvees.

This is one of the best CC Riservas of the 2021 vintage – a historic vintage in Tuscany.
