Talbott is one of California’s premier wineries. The secret in their arsenal is their famous estate vineyard, Sleepy Hollow, one of Santa Lucia Highlands oldest, most well- respected and coldest temperature spots in the region. It was deemed a ‘Grand Cru’ California vineyard by Wine Enthusiast and it’s also the vineyard source for Talbott’s perfect 100-point review from Wine Spectator some years ago.
Today it’s the home to countless expertly crafted Pinot Noirs, most seeing 95 points or more from wine critics, and most priced at $75/bottle or more. But as we knock on December’s door, our friends at Talbott gave us a special offer that reads like a misprint and I jumped on it without giving it a second thought.
$45/bottle on release for Talbott’s Sleepy Hollow Estate Pinot Noir 2016. $32.99/bottle is the absolute lowest price online you could find … before today.

92 Points, James Suckling
Dried-strawberry and orange-peel aromas. Dusty, dry earth. Full body, round and juicy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. This is real pinot noir character. Drink now and enjoy.

The 2021 Napa Valley East side Cuvee is an instant classic. From the first whiff to the moment it hits the lips, its clear that this is a fabulously concentrated, serious wine: black in color, and featuring aromas of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. The mouthfeel is plush and voluptuous with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging.
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
94 Points, Tasting Panel
This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
