For my palate, the Pinot Noirs that Tony Soter makes off Mineral Springs Ranch Vineyard in the Willamette Valley are always one of the absolute best representations of Oregon winemaking. Period. It’s perennially scored towards as one of if not the top of all Oregon Pinots, and offers such a wonderfully distinct and pure expression of whole cluster Pinot. This is an absolutely beautiful, magical vineyard that I have had the pleasure of visiting several times.
The 2023 bottling is as good as this wine has ever been. It really delivers in a number of ways. It has incredible energy, with the earth and spice to balance out sweet cherry and floral notes. It’s a beautiful Pinot in its youth but with a little time in the glass, it starts to show off, peeling back layer after layer of intricate dark-fruited notes with silkiness and elegance in abundance. It’s a showstopper with 20-25 years of premium aging ahead of it. Not to be missed!

Tony Soter gained recognition as the founder of Etude Wines, and consultant to luminaries such as Araujo, Shafer, Spottswoode, and Dalla Valle. He has demonstrated a genius for crafting award-winning wines over his four decades of innovative wine growing.
Eventually in the late 1980’s his curiosity of Oregon’s buzzing winemaking drew him away from his cushy California lifestyle making some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the world and opted instead to try his hand in Oregon’s wild, wild, west with the help of his scientist wife, Michelle.
Michelle is an expert in environmentalism, organics, biodynamics and nutrition, which has made Mineral Springs Ranch a special destination in the Pacific Northwest. After years of diligence, Tony and Michelle accomplished their ultimate goal in 2013: converting their 250-acre property into a certified biodynamic farm and haven for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
