Fattoria di Rodáno is a top source for classically made, user-friendly and complex Chianti. Located in Castellina in the heart of the Chianti Classico district, the estate dates back as a wine-producing property to the sixteenth century, belonging to the Pozzesi family ever since that time.
They have a picturesque and relatively small, family-run, artisanal estate with outrageous views throughout their property including the beautiful, south-facing amphitheater vineyard of Viacosta, from which they make their flagship Chianti Classico. They also had the pleasure of calling the legendary Chianti winemaker Guilio Gambelli their own, up until his death in 2012.
Now owner, Enrique Pozzesi handles the winemaking- blessed with the many of the teachings of Gambelli as well as his secret weapon, his Poggialupi Super Tuscan. When Rodano doesn’t play by the rules is when they are at their best. The secret to the this Super Tuscan is a little bit of Merlot, giving the wine no rough edges. It’s bright, it’s full-bodied and it’s absolutely delicious. Easily one of the best values in all of Tuscany. Take my word on this one and give it a try.

The 50 hectare estate of Maurice Robert is the jewel of this beautiful growing region, located east of Bordeaux. Robert is first and foremost a viticulturist, tending his vines like gardens. The Bordeaux Rouge 2016, a barrel-fermented, vibrant blend Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with juicy cassis fruit and just the right touch of savory spice. It is a perfect choice for roasted poultry, grilled burgers or steaks or any Alpine cheese.

Feudo Montoni has been one of the best producers in Italy for literally hundreds of years, most notably for their work with Nero D’Avola grape in Sicily. It’s a gorgeous expression at such a good price. The 2020 “Lagnusa” is the perfect pizza or Thanksgiving wine with juicy black fruits, grippy tannins and a wonderful, fresh and herbaceous finish. Vinous Media gave the wine 92 points and raved, calling it “remarkably fresh yet long, leaving the mouth watering while still resonating on hints of blackberry.” You’re going to love this.

Since the late 1990’s Penner-Ash has been viewed as one of Oregon’s top wineries making gorgeous wines in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. In the 2021 vintage considered to be one of Oregon’s all-time great years, the 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that Lynn crafted is gorgeous, a silky tightly woven number that mixes red and black fruits with some sage and baking spices and a savory finish. It’s got some nice weight to it and structure which suggests it’ll age well for the next 10-15 years though it’s already drinking beautifully in its youth.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
