Bob Foley holds all his wines back until they’re “ready”. You know this from our stories about the Butcher and Shelter wines, which regularly take several years before Bob is ready for the world to have at them. Both he and his wife serve as the guinea pigs, drinking the wines regularly over time, until they’re deemed good to go. With today’s beauty, they’re finally ready to relinquish some of their private stash.
I had a chance to try Bob’s Estate Blanc this past week and found it to be absolutely flawless. It reminds me of a Cotes du Rhône. Then I was given the price of the wine and was blown away.
This is an amazingly crisp white, especially considering Bob held back a year or two. It’s no surprise. Even without any oak treatment, this is an aromatic treat. Pair with any of the usual suspects: spring salad, poultry or anything out of the ocean.
I think all of Foley’s wines are a bargain especially considering the extra aging (which ain’t cheap) and the pedigree– but this one just might take the cake. It’s not everyday you get to raid the cellar of a true passion project. $28/bottle at the winery and everywhere else online. 43% OFF on bottle one for the next 72 hours. Nearly half off and shipping included on all case orders.

From just west of Sancerre, Vincent’s vines are tended organically in flint-laden, calcareous soil which lends a great brightness to the wine. The wine is crisp and aromatic Sauvignon, and is a superb choice for a “cocktail” wine, as an aperitif or to accompany just about anything from sea.
The Zenato family has built up quite the reputation for delivering exceptional value with their red and whites in Veneto. Their Pinot Grigio is a particularly great value, punching way above its weight class. Delicately scented and soft on the palate, it offers classic citrus and floral notes in a balanced elegant style. It’s smooth and refreshing with a long, pleasant finish. Great with food.
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
One of the best places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. And within Asti, there is no white wine calling card that holds a candle to Moscato. Here it is king. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Moscato is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. This is serious, high-quality and hand-harvested Moscat, that oozes with sweet tropical fruits and a hint of minerality that stays on your tongue with each sip. This is also the perfect wine for anyone searching for a low alcohol option as well.
